I just wish we’d stop trying to buy players already playing in the premier league. Our last good signing from within this league was Mahrez in 2018.

Since then we’ve done:
Ake - £40mil
Grealish - £100mil
Phillips - £45mil
Kovacic - £26mil
Nunes - £50mil?

That is absolutely shocking business.

Long gone are the days of being able to sign big players from “big 6” rivals. I know we bought Kovacic but he was transfer listed by Chelsea as part of a their rebuild.

The worrying thing is, if we’d had our way, we’d have also added Paqueta at £80mil, Rice at £100mil or Bruno G at £90mil. All of which are shocking value.

It’s not hard to see why we’ve dropped off, stop shopping in the bottom half/relegated sides of this league, and still paying top whack in the process.

There’s always plenty of value in Europe, surely we’re paying people good money to go and find them.

Judged on what because the other clubs in the league spend about 1bn a year on players and have won fuck all.

We've been sat about laughing at the money Arsenal, Chelsea and the rags have burnt on players who were the best thing in X, Y and Z.

There's no guarantee to any transfer. Buying domestically is usually to weaken an opponent but also you would hope they are up to speed faster than anyone else would be and we have done a lot better than anyone else in this regard.

If we were able to put away some of the chances we get, the pressure on the defence is immediately lessened.

As it is we are piling pressure on the midfield and defence.

Haaland puts the chance away, and the game gets a totally different look, with the pressure right back on Juventus, with their fans desperate for them to win.

If looking at recent games, we have had chances to take a lead which has been missed, and the pressure reverts back on us, as in the Spurs game and last night.

I agree with that to an extent but we don't have enough players who are decisive in the box.

We're not solid enough to rely on Bernardo, Doku or Grealish to take their chances in tight games. We rarely have been since the Mancini days and even then we were absolutely stacked at centre forward.

But we're still not creating as many chances as we should be doing.

I know De Bruyne played for Chelsea, but we bought him from Wolfsburg on the back of him delivering a Bundesliga player of the season standard performance in the season prior. Had he done what he did for Wolfsburg for Chelsea, they’d simply never have sold him to us.

I know we bought Walker and Sterling from Spurs and Liverpool and both were great signings, but my point is that our relationship with those clubs is so bad that they simply refuse to speak to us anymore (see Harry Kane)

This leaves players from mid table sides at best. Christ we bought Phillips from a near relegated Leeds and he was so bad we never even bothered putting him on the pitch.

We paid top whack for De Bruyne at the time, and our press slagged it off because they just thought he was shit at Chelsea and hadn’t watched him in Germany. For context, that would be like us signing Florian Wirtz last summer.. we are miles off pulling off transfers like that anymore. The ambition in the market from us has dropped substantially.

there are some players in the prem I would take right away or in the summer and we'd need to be very ballsy.

However I do think you're correct that getting players from Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool is usually impossible because they just don't need to sell. There is a greater pool of players from Europe but most of the almost sure thing signings that we want at clubs also don't want to sell so we're again taking a chance that we can significantly improve a player to our standard (and this is the best team in the world)

We used to be very aggressive signing some of the best players around and when required we can do it again but it's usually limited to one stand out per window at least since 17/18 season. This has pretty much served us well but we now reach a break point where many good signings are required at once

I think more of a Walker, Silva, Ederson, Danilo one. We also signed Mendy and Dias who for one reason or another didn't work out. In the January afterwards we signed LaPorte so that was 4 v good first teamers and an able back up. Admittedly in the window that we signed the above players we already had Silva, KDB, Fernandinho in our midfield so in the next 2 windows 5-6 players coming in will be needed but we have done this before

If I could sing anyone today it would be an attacker who will contribute 15+ goals a season.

If centre backs are going to be allowed to hold on to Haaland for ninety minutes then someone needs to be running into all that space they leave behind.

Yes our midfield is getting breezed past and yes Walker needs replacing yesterday but we have one striker and a bunch of wingers who get about 5 goals a season.

This is the least threatening I remember seeing us post takeover.
