It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

If people were unfamiliar with The Sun or the Daily Mirror would it be reasonable for them to blindly trust everything they write?

No, blindly trusting sources who you are unfamiliar with is stupid, which is precisely why I don’t trust a guy I know absolutely nothing about who happens to chuck a BeeGees video on the forum ever now and then. Of course you are more than welcome to believe whoever and whatever you like; I don’t want to give the impression that I’m attacking Tolmie’s friends or fans. I am just a bit sick and tired of the culture that anyone who dares question him must be shot down.

That is fair. Personally I'd only trust newspapers or social media as soon as it gains too much traction to ignore.

Doubt it was decided by Pep or Txiki to hold off last summer. It would have been a decision taken by a few people including Khaldoun, Soriano, Txiki ,Pep. They will have had a fairly long list of ,in their opinions, good reasons to hold off until next summer.

No doubt they couldn’t have foreseen Rodri out for the season and the raft of injuries mate but we have pushed our luck last season with injuries as well? Pep isn’t also the type of manager who’s forced to have players if he wants a smaller squad? Txiki and the transfer team will make recommendations but if Pep says no then I’m sure they won’t go against him?

Maybe, but my guess is at the end of last season before meeting with Sheik Mansour, Khaldoon, Soriano,Txiki, Pep meet and discuss everything including transfer plans for the next season so they can report to him. There will be many reasons on those decisions. Once we accept that's probably roughly how it works then we can all guess what the reasons might have been.Maybe they were mistaken seems they accept they got it wrong from rumours.
Whats's nonsense is things like Pep and Txiki were arrogant, or Txiki was demob happy, or Soriano wanted to win the net spend league. All ridiculous reasoning,of how serious people running the club work and plan.

At the start of 2026/7 I imagine that that the following will all have left the club.
Ederson, Ortega, Carson, Walker, Stones, Akanji, Ake, de Bruyne, Gundoghan, Bernardo, Kovacic, Grealish, Nuñes, McAtee and Phillips.

The only current players who make the cut are
Lewis, Foden, Gvardiol, Rodri, Savinho, Doku and Haaland.

Frankly it's frightening on two fronts. Firstly how the hell do we bed in over 10 players in the next year and a half. And secondly all these players know they're on borrowed time which will affect their performance.

If Bruno G and Zubimendi is off for January that’s a massive shame. Most clubs are unwilling to sell in January or will ask for a ridiculous premium. We shouldn’t sign any players in January that we wouldn’t sign in the summer. We need to get this rebuild right, and not go for the easy solutions in January. I’d guess our best bet is out-of-favour players on loan

Douglas Luiz to cover DM, Evan Ferguson as Haaland backup

I think you might be right, it’s a pity to miss out on those two but anyone we sign has to bit long term or be a loan player that is hungry to play for us. We desperately need legs in midfield do Luiz could be a reasonable stop gap but Italian clubs are awful to deal with.
