I don’t think Neymar not being able to move again this summer is particularly significant in regards to transfers fees in general. His PSG fee was an outlier because a. it wasn’t negotiated, the only way he was moving was if they paid the inflated release clause and b. the fee itself was justified by PSG in part from off the pitch, commercial purposes like elevating their brand in South America and promoting the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.Personally I think we have reached the zenith of high transfer fees. Teams seem to be stuck with very expensive players that clubs are not able to afford and those players that are in demand seem to be out of the reach of most clubs. RM and Barca are the exceptions but even they are now unable to buy all their targets. (eg the Neymar deal).

Now that fee needs to be matched or exceeded in order for him to move again, but this time without the above considerations. Layer on the injuries he had, as well as Neymar being a few years older... Not that big of a surprise that a deal can't get done in my opinion.
I think Bale ends up just taking a payoff from Real to leave. It's a big enough number that they're going to do everything they can think of not to write him a check, but it'll happen at some point. Real doesn't want to pay him the full amount and Bale doesn't actually want to only play golf for the next three years. They'll find a number that works.A number of big clubs have got themselves in a mess over big signings that have not worked out. There is only one way that these things get unwound and that is to take a big hit and accept a tiny portion of the initial fee to sell on or even pay off the player to leave. If you list them all out it is hard to say how each one will work out - a lot has to do with the personalities involved and the fans perception of the situation. On balance I think most wont get resolved, the only one i can see happening at this stage is Lukaku to Inter. I expect all others to stay and play (golf).

Me either! But that's probably why it's taking so long. No one outside of China is actually going to pay much in the way of a fee for him... the only way this ends is if it becomes so untenable for him to stay at Real that they just write him a check for 90% of what he's owed (or something like that) and let him go for an "undisclosed" fee or a loan with an option at the end of it.I can't see him in China! Maybe as a way out and for one season, less than 12 months, but it's not his style. What would last longer a season of Chinese football or Zidan's next stint as RM manager - that is probably what he is trying to work out!
I can see him at Spurs but they might pay 10% of his wages if RM are lucky. That might be the best option all round.

I fully agree, United have players they can’t shift, namely Lumpy & Showpony. Barca & Real are desperate to shift genuine top level players. Juve now look like they need to sell.
If clubs are smart, the self proclaimed super clubs will have to have their pants down.
This should help level the market off a little, well ran clubs like us, Liverpool don’t need to enter these sill trade wars.
