It's Quiet - a new dawn

So we know of at least two situations - three if you include Kaka (bullet dodged there) - where verbal agreements fell through.
... why are we still making them?
Get it done. Zero excuses with Alves. He was a free agent.
So should we just have said - "Oi fucker get this signed now or fuck of........."? Yeah, a many-millionaire with loads of options and no need to be pressured - sounds the right way to handle things

Or should we perhaps have persuaded him to join us knowing that shit can happen and there is always a risk that he could change his mind

Dragged him off his honeymoon ? That would've gone down well.

Exactly. How would anyone in the real world respond to being treated like that or told they have to sign a contract now?

It probably irritated the club not having pen to paper but sadly it was a waiting game if we wanted to sign him.

Same format used with Bernardo Silva and Ederson ?....you come across as quite childish.

Silva and Ederson were rare and not the norm mate.....The way we do business is very predictable, most of the time it works but on this occasion it didnt....Childish would be to present my opinion in a silly, immature way. The opinion itself is not childish and one which alot on these threads seem to agree. For some its impossible to comprehend that the club could have messed up, even when they do. I still think we'll get Mendy and Walker but we havent made it easy for ourselves....

What i'm saying is when did he give the nod to join us?

And how much time has passed till today.

But we cannot force him to sign. We had to wait and sadly in the interim, in his opinion, a better offer came along.

Whether he intended to sign, was hoping for another offer, we do not know. All we could do was wait if he has given us his word.

I have no doubt this is not unique in the world of transfers. Some work out somedont. Case in point being Fabian Delph how things can change so quickly.

Could this be what Tolmie was alluding to a few days ago when he mentioned something along the lines of us holding a gun but not being decisive enough to pull the trigger?
Also I thought PSG already have 2 top RBs. I'm thinking they might want to offload Aurier and if this is the case, can we give it a go? I know he has suffered serious image denting and there's a school of thought that says the Qataris wouldn't do business with our promoters. Based on the foregoing do you think there's a zero to slim chance of us signing Aurier?

Im more than critical of the clubs transfer policy but what exactly have they done wrong?

Explain what they could have done differently?

There was rumours that Aurier was off, which is the reason PSG started talks with Alves....Doesnt he still have legal issues to sort out?

I'm at a loss to know what people think we should have done to "make him sign"
