It's Quiet - a new dawn

I'm employing the "manager who's worked with a player for a year would know by now if he had the characteristics to play pivot" fallacy.
I'd refer to @CityStu's response regarding intervening factors as counterpoint (I was going to post the same but he beat me to it). Again, you make fine points but this situation was/is not without further context.

I simply do not think the argument for Stones as a "pivot" DM is so easy to dismiss. Now, if he played there for any period of time and was found wanting, I could then concede it should be dismissed. Until then no one can say anything about it with confidence—it's all our opinion/predictive analysis.

Mbappe was quoted like 120m start of window, Sanchez around 60m same with VVD...Seen SamLee say we wanted Sanchez and Mbappe but obviously we did not factor Alves going PSG..Not sure how accurate / Realistic getting both would have been but would have been serious money being estimated. Who knows how much more we are yet to spend.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us now have to pay close to 150 million for VVD and Sanchez.

I think you are really overestimating his reliance on his dribbling skills (or decision to employ them,) especially if he was in a different role with different tactical instructions.

Probably, but when I see him put under pressure he panics and the only way out is to dribble. If you think he can hold his position and do one touch passing under pressure as well as Yaya then fine. If he is deployed there you can be sure of one thing and that is the opposition putting him under immense pressure knowing full well he's being played in the midfield.

The Pep effect in action. This squad would not be built under any other manager as top players don't want to rotate.

true but also our management was ruthless and inefficient with spending on ineffective players that are clearly not going to stick around and we're now having trouble offloading them. Pep seems to have a clear idea and the management for once seems to like him a lot, hope he stays longer here.

I honestly don't understand why we're still even mentioning VVD, he's good but not so good to spend £60m + on. He's never played a single CL game, is injury prone and regardless of his ability we need someone with more experience, who's played consistently at a higher level than just as a Saints center half. Inigo would be better than him.
