It's Quiet - a new dawn

I think it was the darts player Bobby George who espoused:"Doubles for dough, trebles for show."

It's more about what we need right now than what it would be great to crow about.

Sanchez and Evans fall into the first category.

Mbappe and VVD, the other.

We won't be pissing off Arsenal chucking grenades in before their game tomorrow, that wouldn't be smart.

I remember the same argument about getting what we need when we signed Rodwell, Mangala, Sinclair and Delph.

Probably trying to still claw back all the divorce settlement money.

It's a double-edged sword as Paris will now dominate the French league with impunity, which will only add to it becoming less attractive to other players and sponsors.

It's the collective strength of the Premier League which provides the perfect package.

There is no provision for the league in France to grow as such, so Paris have become the richer and better equivalent of Celtic.

No wonder Qatar are behind moves to create a European Super League.

Germany and Italy have actually benefitted from the single club dominance when it comes to sponsors and tv deals. Having 1 globally recognised super club is just as effective a marketing tool as the "anyone can win" strategy the Premier League has carved out.

France will be the same if PSG can be successful, and that influx of tv money will raise the overall quality of the league which is as competitive as it has been in a while, with Monaco still being competitive, Marseilles and Lyon being taken over.

I'm a bit annoyed by PSG this window but there's nothing to suggest they're shooting themselves in the foot here.

Also the divorce settlement for the Russian owner isn't something he needs to cover, it was reduced by a court to only 390m, which is a drop in the ocean for his 8Bn net worth.

Obviously bullshit because no one made the "it's not a showy signing" argument when we spent 32-42 million on a centre back in 2014, and no one defended the sinclair signing, we all knew that was shit.

I do wonder why people so desperately try to draw false equivalences.

The maths based on the PSGs published revenue figures say they can't unless they have found a FFP exempt money tree. Indeed these massive net wages for Neymar and Mbappe include sizable 0% tax payments for working as "Ambassadors for the Qatar World Cup". This won't wash with the French Tax authorities as it will be akin to earning image rights abroad so they will have to find about €150m a year in valid FFP income from somewhere. Of course getting Mbappe on loan for a season delays the day of reckoning, but it will come.
How harsh will it be for them to find £150M? I'm sure they've been saving some new income streams for a rainy day as I'm sure we have. If I'm right, they're getting €25M a season from emirates. Since a few clubs are getting £60-£75M from their sponsors, why can't they do the same? Nike pay them €24 a season when some kit deals are £50-£75M. There plenty of room in those two deals alone for them to get an extra £85-£90M a season even if that means changing sponsor. Their sales this summer will free up some wages. Until the end of the window, we won't know by how much but that could easily be another £20M. New sponsorship deals on the back of Neymar and Mbappe could make up the shortfall and a few lucrative friendlies in post season could add the cherry to the cake.
I'm sure we'd be doing the same if Messi was offered to us for £100M.

Plenty defended the Sinclair argument and the same with Delph.

I think the whole point is that money makes decisions whether players or clubs admit to it or not.

We thought Monaco would never sell to PSG even though their whole purpose as a football club is to make money from transfers.
We thought Alves would go to City but he was bought by PSG.
Chelsea matched United for Lukaka but he was bought by a typical USA style doubling bid by United.

Every player as well as every club now will auction themselves and the most money will win. Forget about this I want to play in the CL rubbish its money that makes decisions for the transfers that appear to matter.
