It's Quiet - a new dawn

Bertrand is now 5/4 to join and evens to stay at Soton. Bit gutted that Van Dijk looks odds on to join chelsea.

we must have someone else lined up mate? or the club are confident that vinny can stay fit and pep can improve otamendi? then use kolarov as a back up? stones, company, otamendi and kolarov seems ok on paper if the full backs are sorted?

The way I see it we are losing 4 to 6 player first team players due to their contracts ending. There is also considerable doubts over the futures of VK,Delph and Fernando. We need to buy a new goalkeeper, right back, left back, centre back, centre mid and forward. We may also need some options as at present there are so many holes in the squad

As it stands our Squad will probably look like:

GK- Bravo/ New keeper/ Gunn
Defenders - New RB/ New LB/ Navas/ Kolarov/ New CB/ Otamendi/ Stones
Midfield- Gundogan/ KdB/ Silva/ New CM/ Fernandinho/ Yaya/ Sterling/ Sane
Aguero/ Jesus/ New Forward

That's a 21 man squad but Gunn doesn't count in that as he is under 21, so 20 players, of which only Stones and Sterling are homegrown so Walker would be very useful.

I seem to remember this being used to indicate the signing of David Silva. The Cartwright brother's local = The Silver Dollar...maybe we're after Bernardo Silva?

I thought it was more to do with Spurs, I.e Walker and possibly another player (Alderweireld).

Found this on IMDb for the description of Bonanza: "The adventures of Ben Cartwright and his sons as they run and defend their ranch while helping the surrounding community"

Key words there - "defend" obvious reference to a defender, possibly two. And "helping the surrounding community" reference to their new stadium.

But that was my initial take on the clue. I could be completely wrong.

So you suggest we don't buy a new RB and play Maffeo there instead? Daring.

I'm not sure Pep believes he's ready for that yet and it seems a risky gamble compared to bringing in established talent in the position.

Come on man, I expected better from you. I've clearly just spoken about the need to improve the right back position. My only point about Maffeo is that I'd much prefer him if we need a backup than Navas. If he's out on loan because we've got two decent right back options then that's absolutely fair enough. If he's out on loan again to accommodate Navas then it's just something I simply can't get behind.

We aren't other clubs.

Uh huh.

Whether you or I think he's ready is irrelevant. Does Pep think he's ready? Evidently not.

Relevant to what? If Pep's around to join the conversation then I'd be ecstatic but, as it is, he's not here.

Neither Zaba nor Sagna have pace or the necessary skillset to play Pep's system. Say what you like about Navas, but he's not going to be left in the dust by Rashford, or Mane, or Wellbeck etc.

The point was that I could understand the decision earlier this season, not that I'd want to keep them now.

Aye mate i suppose looking at the centre backs now they aren't doing as bad when you see the state of our full backs. However part of me does wish for a Van Dijk, Alderweireld, Bonucci type defender as i dont think Kompany can be relied upon.

I doubt we are sending Maffeo on loan to accommodate Navas, it's what Pep (and our scouts) believe is best for Maffeo and his development.

If he's not ready, he's not ready.

Surely with Girona all but promoted to the top league in Spain it would be better for him to spend a second year there and come back next year with a full year of top division football against quality sides under his belt all whilst still being 20 years old, surely it's better for him to be getting games against the likes of Barcelona at the camp nou than scraping 75 mins against Burton away in the cup or something akin to that

Might not be the worst idea if Girona see him as first choice material for next season, although I was hoping to see him here, lad has the ability to push most right backs we could sign out of the starting spot within a season imo.
