It's Quiet - a new dawn

So if Pep signs him it'll be for the sake of it and in the full knowledge he isn't good enough to actually play for us?

Also you realise identical arguments were made to not sign Raz and Stones too.

Raz and Stones are much better than Barkley. He doesn't have the mentality or consistency to play at the very top level.

Haha. I'll bet you whatever you want the biggest complaints about Raz and Stones before they signed were "mentality and consistency" not being good enough.

I would personally rather persevere with Phil Foden and Matt Smith from the academy than buy a player we do not need.

Genuine question for you.

Do we "need" Ross Barkley, or do we need a player in that position?

I would say we needed Sterling and even though I didn't like the signing, we needed a player like Stones. Being English was a bonus for both and why we needed them over foreign counterparts.

But with Barkley, i don't see the x factor that both Stones and Sterling possessed, even in spite of flaws in their games at the time of their respective transfers.

With Ross I just see a lot of graft. Surely we can get a far superior player for less cash. If you were given the option of Isco or Barkley and it was a simple case of one or the other, who do you choose?

So you'll have him on the bench, because Fernandinho won't be first choice next year. He's been absolute gash all season, how some still think he has it is beyond me.

right now with the team we have i would. next year if gundogan is fit, he'd be good next to him or as cover for silva/de bruyne

Please tell me you were smashed off your tits when you posted this bollocks. Fernandinho has been brilliant all season being asked to play in positions he's never played before. He's our best holding midfielder, best right back and our best left back and probably wouldn't do any worse than Kolarov or Otamendi at centre half either.

When has he been brilliant? When he was getting suspended for half the season?

We look far, far superior when he has not being in our midfield set up. I've never seen a player live off a former reputation more than he has. Yaya came in for him and took over and we instantly looked far more solid. Stones looked better. Otamendi even looked better. Suddenly Sane and Sterling had free reign thanks to far faster movement of the ball. All of this stemmed from taking Fernandinho out of the line up. That's not coincidence. Right back is the only slot I have for him right now, and when we buy a RB, and hopefully buy in Fabinho he slips even further down the pecking order.

Feel free to prove me wrong, but results and the general look of the team since he was moved out of the middle say I'm right.

The experiment at LB was a disaster. You don't need to embellish to make the point that Dinho has been a key player for us this season.

I'm starting to think that Fernandinho follows a regular pattern every season. He has a good first ten games, but then the intensity takes hold and he struggles. It's why signing a Fabinho is so important.

He had a fantastic first season, and like everyone else he got a pass last year. But when you look at him this season, I can't see what he actually adds to the team. We're torn apart when he is in there in front of the defence, he doesn't get assists and doesn't get goals. It's just a ton of running around really. If he can convert to RB then fine, keep him there, but he's nowhere near good enough in our middle.

I'd just like to point out that for much of the time Yaya was out, Sane also didn't feature regularly. I think it is only since around Christmas time Sane has featured in every game so we didn't always have two prominent fast wingers to stretch teams efficiently with. Our last game featuring both Yaya and Dinho had Yaya struggling whilst Dinho was solid at both RB and then CM. I do feel Dinho will be a utility player next season, filling in when required if we sign Fabinho and Isco/Dahoud but he has performed like most in the squad this season, up and down.

I guess Kante is of no use to Chelsea then. Assists and goals are irrelevant to a holding midfielder. Like I said in my previous post to you, he's performed no different to most this season, up and down and he will be a squad player next season and what a fantastic player to have fill in.
