Has anyone else clocked on the love in between Neymar and our very own Gabby Jesus? Both very very very complimentary about one another over the last 6 months.

I agree (apart from Bale who i'm not a huge fan of).

Listening to Tim Vickery talk about Neymar is very interesting. He basically is the South American equivalent of an academy player, rather than a street footballer like most of the best players from that continent. He's grown up in a controlled environment and as such has learnt to use the referee for protection, rather than learn how to protect himself. As a result his game basically relies on getting decisions from the ref, and on making the most of any contact, diving etc. It would a problem in English football because for a start he wouldn't get the same level of protection. On top of that, the fans are much less accepting of that kind of behaviour, and so every game there'd be huge pressure on Neymar and he'd essentially be vilified by everyone. Reckons Neymar would find it very difficult to adapt.
 
Neymar would be great for commercial reasons and could open the door to more brazilian youngsters to consider us seeing Jesus and neymar in same team
 
People are hugely underrating Neymar.

He's a fantastic footballer and would tear up the PL.

No, Tim Vickery thought Jesus might struggle coming over because he was a bit more immature, and City seemingly agreed considering they paid for his entire family to come over with him including his mum to keep an eye on him.

He also said that when Moreno had just been the standout player in the Copa Libertadores and G.Jesus had at the time done fuck all really, it wasn't until after we'd signed both that Jesus took off.

Vickery is a good journalist, and offers a lot of insight into what football people - explayers, managers etc. - think in Brazil, being a pretty well connected and successful journo over there. He's not a pundit and doesn't claim to be, and when he does give his opinion on things almost always reminds people of that and happily admits when he's wrong.
 
Barca would move on Messi before Neymar, he's that central to the club and their future, never mind being rated as the most valuable player in the game. Further, unlike Messi, he actually extended and could well be the highest paid player in football by a margin.

Blaugrana are in an interesting situation this summer. Their well documented financial struggles are ongoing, yet they have two money-sinks that are borderline unavoidable approaching:
1. Messi reaches the final year of his contract and will either be extended for record wages or walk for free in a year.
2. Lucho leaves, come what may, and a new manager takes over. He has signings to make and a squad of his own to build.

Pretty sure Neymar would be the last player they move on, short of offers over £200m, but I happen to agree with Vickery regardless that he would be more likely to struggle in the PL than say, Gabriel Jesus. Messi on the other hand...
 
Doesn't Messi have a BC of 200M ? So if we were to trigger that Barca has no say, i might be wrong.

Fernando wouldn't have anywhere near the pull of neymar. Jesus yes which would start to get people talking if we had the two of them it would say to the youngsters look we have 2 of your biggest talents which could be idols to those players

This is actually quite interesting, though obviously to be taken with more than just a grain of salt.

Say Barca get Coutinho. He's played in the middle in the past but not for a few years and wouldn't be at the level they require. He'd instead be fighting for Neymar's place.

Neymar has a buyout clause. I'm not sure how much, but I'd imagine €200m wouldn't be out of the question. What is the question though, is why Barcelona, of all teams, would be interested in an expensive attacking player given their financial situation and the fact they have MSN?

Food for thought.
 
I just cannot see us getting Neymar.

We went in hard for him last year. We almost had him too but he opted to remain at Barca. Plus the Spanish authorities are out to jail him, so why would we take the risk of getting burnt with that?

Messi at the price and his age wouldn't be good business imo. For all his talent, the Shevchenko deal just keeps coming to mind.

Suarez would be the sensible one to go after, but something happened between him and Pere Guardiola last year so I can't see that happening.

Why go after Suarez when we already have Jesus? If we break the bank for a player, he should be a wide player

I'm talking about the context of the one we could actually get out of Barca. I don't think we'll go for any of them tbh. We went in hard for them all last year and came out empty handed so I think a year on we don't need players over 28 at those prices. Sanchez makes more sense at his price.

It's been well recorded by a lot of reliable sources that Pep desperately wanted to sign him for Bayern in 2013, but the Bayern board wouldn't do it, giving him Gotze instead.

So Pep obviously thought he had the capacity to work hard enough at some point.

Also, Pep's never had a problem managing twats like Busquets, Neuer or Robben so don't think you can rule him our on those grounds.
