It's Quiet the £250m return

He’s not a top centre back in any way whatsoever. How anyone can think a centre half that has limited pace, crap in the air, and not great at passing, is a top player is beyond me. Yes, he puts in some decent blocks from time to time, and I still remember him playing well when he first arrived, but we’ve not seen anything close to that for a long while now.
Of Course he’s a top centre half. If he’s not than the bar is set way to high.

I feel like him and Rodri are the only two left who demand as much from themselves as they do from everyone else.

As much as he's pissed me off at times this season, players like him are the anchors of their teams who remind the players what it takes to be a champion when they need it. Don't panic, just give everything you have until the final whistle.

Might not look great in a compilation but these players are vital if you want to keep a culture of winning at the club.

Absolute nonsense!
Tbh if you break down what he’s said, it’s not a completely crazy thing to say at all.

His first point is he has “limited pace” - well that needs no further comment, it’s clearly true.

Secondly, “crap in the air” - the stats show that last season he had the 2nd lowest aerial duel success percentage out of every PL centre back. Second lowest. So by current premier league standards, is he crap in the air for a centre back? Yeah, he is if you compare him to others.

Thirdly, “not great at passing” - I’d say this is true too. He’s obviously improved his passing since he joined, but has he improved enough to be called a great passer? No, that would be far fetched.

Then his final point about not seeing Dias in his best form for a long time now is also absolutely true. It’s been at least 2 years now.

The only thing he missed, and the main thing that still allows him to be described as a top centre back in my opinion, is the way he makes the other defenders around him better. He is the glue in defence, the leader, the communicator. And all of those intangibles are crucial to us, as the majority of our players don’t talk on the pitch.

100% correct. Needs ball playing defenders next to him, however he’s a very good old fashioned defender (blood and guts) and a decent leader at the back.
Dias's flaw is that he can be beaten for pace but he is a warrior. His mentality and leadership is outstanding. That makes up for his individual weaknesses and anyway the defence is a unit where players complement each other. In that unit you have pace, passing, strength in the air etc. You could probably argue that Stones and Gvardiol are our best individual players from a technical perspective but Stones is never fit.

Dias has been central to our recent trophies including 4 back to back Premier League titles and is also a leading player for one of strongest international sides in Europe. Those who criticise him should look at what he's won. There's no coming back from that.

Thanks mate, decent post that I wasn’t capable of articulating last night after a bottle or two of red.

I don't want to piss on your chips but I'd hazard a guess that Pep has give the team a week or so off and Gundog has gone to Turkey to have a rest, maybe catch up with relatives and have a bit of down time.

I'm sure he's just triggered an extra year with us. Sounds absolutely plausible he'd want to go to Galatasaray.

Who wouldn't.

He did say he wanted to end his career playing in Turkey so maybe a nice nominal fee from us lets us do that? If we are going to really refresh then being honest, he needs gone as well.
