It's Quiet the £250m return

Rumours a Saudi club have Bernie at the top of their list but no offer to us yet.

I’d love to keep him, personally. Think he’d still have a lot to offer when he’s not being flogged the box-to-box role every 3 days. He ended the season really strong and the introduction of Reijnders should give him a bit of breathing room.

I think Kovacic is safe too due to injury so maybe Gundogan will go? If any of them.

I'm guessing if we get cherki on top of the other 2 sigings these could be the only signings made til maybe mid july -aug then we might re visit mgw and possibly a right back. The club already stated all signings will be done in time for cwc.Window re opens on 16th June but we will be competing in this tournament for 4 to 5 weeks which means the rest of our business might be later in the window.
They didn’t state all signings would be done for the CWC.What he said was they’d like the new squad to be going to the CWC. He didn’t say it was guaranteed and didn’t say they would all be done. Seems all except the right back will, but then will depend who leaves , which he couldn’t know then, whether we need any more through the summer.

I think we could definitely do with Bernardo and Gundogan leaving just so Pep can’t play them anymore? He’s too attached to these guys so with our utmost respect and thanks, these two should leave this summer

I doubt Bernie and Mrs would go to Saudi
He homesick in Manchester

I keep reading on various sites that City spent £200 million in January but I thought it was £56m marmoush, £45m Nico, £29m Khusanov & £19m Vitor Reis which is about £150m.
Those transfer fees are what’s known as ‘variable numbers’.

If you round all those numbers up, for example, you get £160M. If you then change that to Euros, you get €190M, which if rounded up again, becomes €200M.
You’ve now got the base number 200M and, because it’s England, it becomes pounds so, it’s £200M. Simple.

Now, if it’s a NW team in red, those numbers will be significantly reduced, by a process known as ‘lying ones arse off’.

I'm going to ask my bosses can they round my wages up in future.

Bernie is the only oldie (he's only 30!) I'd definitely want to keep, in the middle he still has a lot to give, works his socks off and is still technically brilliant. As you say, when the games were a bit more spaced out at the end of the season, his level went up. Much better when he wasn't being flogged.

I also seem to remember that there was a decent surplus from player sales carried over from last summer c£125/130m which was always going to help fund a January spend.

It's a very convenient narrative for people to run away with. We sold Alvarez for £85m and made a huge summer profit and it seems to have been forgotten.

I reckon we wanted to shift 2 of Kovacic, Bernie and Gundo and with Kov being out for 3 months will be more open to letting Bernie go.

Also a better deal as he only has 1 year left, bigger wages and Kovacic has more to offer in my opinion.

But let’s see if 1 - Saudi bid and 2 - if so he’d be happy to go there

Id probably lose all 3 tbh and get a younger 6 in, if one can be found.

Kova will be back in time to potentially leave before window shuts, it’s just not one we can predict at this time.

None will need replacing if we get MGW on top of the 3 we’re currently signing. Which I personally think is the way to go, not even sure we need MGW and Pep said he wants a small squad and to fill the gaps with EDS

I agree we'd probably have been more keen to lose Kovacic but I actually think considering the make of of the rest of the midfield it wouldn't be the worst idea to keep him around as the backup 6 until Pep is comfortable playing Nico G there. Also think it would be good to remove the temptation to play Bernardo on the right from Pep.
