Pressing is a whole team thing.
Al-Hilal pressed better than us!
Pressing is a whole team thing.
Actually I think we should expect very highly paid professionals to change this. It's not like this is a sudden issue....rodri himself said it months before his injury...many on here said it wsy before that. The recruitment in midfield and the planning around there and the centre back position has been poor. John Stones has always been injury prone as has Ake...this is not new. The pur hade of Phillips was highly questioned at the time...same with Nunes......You cannot replace their level of skill and experience in the market.
We have to accept that we will have a changeover period.
That is why some of those players will stay and will be picked as the younger ones become more familiar with how we play.
I disagree, generally speaking.Actually

You csn replace their levels...we are too nice as a club at times....we held onto Kdb a year too long...we brought Gundo back...two more mistakes born out of sentiment.
Holding onto gunfo another year if that happens is compounding it....hiving him game time over Nico Gonzales is a mistake....gibing akanji game time over Khusonov is a mistake as we are no closer to knowing whether they are at the level required or whether they csn get there which sets us back agsin....
That performances against Al hilal was horrible predictable and one we have seen from our aged midfield and slow back line before
KDB had just come off the back of a pretty bad injury the season before which kept him out for pretty much the whole season. In addition to being over 30 I would say it was pretty poor planning to rely on him the way we did, almost predictable you might say.I disagree, generally speaking.
Last season was one plagued by injuries that we have not experienced in ten years.
I don't believe that the drop-off in KDB's performance was predictable - I think that is hindsight.
I don't believe that we could have foreseen injuries to as many players at the same time as Rodri.
We could not have predicted Bobb's broken leg after being the stand-out for pre-season.
We could not have predicted Pep's marital problems.
Being too nice I do not accept. Loyalty has achieved greatness and is reciprocated between manager and player.
We clearly have been very active in the market to make changes we believe we need to make.
Have we made mistakes? Of course. We are human.
Should Khusanov be given game time in this tournament - possibly - but the important part is him being ready for next season - we don't know yet who is going and who is staying. Same goes with Gundo/Gonzalez.
And here is the key - none of these diagnosis followed the Juventus game.
We are in a period of transition following a decade of greatness. We accept it and move on.

It wasn't just Stones and Ake though; Foden, Grealish, Doku, KDB, Rodri, Bobb, Ake, Akanji, Stones, and more, and many at the same time.KDB had just come off the back of a pretty bad injury the season before which kept him out for pretty much the whole season. If anything Bobb was going to have a break through season not a ‘we can rely on him performing every week’ season. Again the leg break halted this but to have no alternative even before this is poor planning again.
The other injuries to the likes of Stones, Ake etc are as predictable as they come. I’m all for benefit of the doubt but your post is blue tinted goggles I’m afraid.
And a prime reason for our success.
You have to have some pace in the back line.
You have to begin the defensive process at the front.
We’ve been active in the market but it doesn’t matter if Pep doesn’t play them, he’s a genius of a manager but he has to see the problem is Gundo and Bernardo. Otherwise we will have a similar season to last year.
they can’t play in midfield together. The common denominator last season was them two in the middle made our midfield non existent. It was made more clear last season with Rodri not being there to help them.
They don’t have the legs anymore to play this pressing system. But Pep continues with them, I just think it’s blind loyalty as he’s said they are his players.
Haaland's arrival has brought lots of goals but....
I agree, difference is we have had the likes of Aguero, Alvarez chasing the hell out of people, now we have a statue half the time.
We also no longer have the pace in the backline so need to adapt imo. Suicidal if not.
The treble season was a weird one. For much of the season we weren't great. Pep made a switch in February and we became unbeatable. The Madrid home leg was the single best match we've ever played.A lot of goals +
The treble
An all time record 4th league title in a row

However over a whole season I think we've had a couple of seasons under Pep where we've been better. Both without big Erl.
Good points. We do have to accept a drop in quality. There is no one available as good as walker, stones and Rodri in their prime. You cannot replace their level of skill and experience in the market.

No, and Walker Stones and Rodri when they arrived weren’t as good as Walker, Stones and Rodri in their prime. Same with KDB, Kompany, Aguero, Silva. Fernandinho.Probably others too.Good points. I think we earned around from €40-50m from the CWC.If we can't shift the old players, Lets loan all the young ones.
Spending 80% of the season on the bench or stands will not rise their level or value.

Correct, because they BECAME that good while they were with us. They did not arrive at the level they peaked at and neither did anyone else.Good points. We do have to accept a drop in quality. There is no one available as good as walker, stones and Rodri in their prime.
Sorry but lots of people on here pre rodri injury were saying we needed back upI disagree, generally speaking.

Lots of people including myself were on about tge decline in KDB before last season.
Loyalty is great but not at the expense of progression. These are very highly paid players. If they can5 compete at tge very top they need to be loved on....it gets tge club into situations where new players can't be bedded in ...it slows down transition
Where have we made the changes to the centre half position? Buying two inexperienced centre halves and then not playing them in ore season? And not playing them for most of last season as well?
The whole point is the transition isn't anywhere near complete...people saying we are back are in gor a rude awakening if we dot get the centre of defense sorted and go into games with Gundo as our DM
