It's Quiet the £250m return

The team was old and stale, the squad of players had won everything possible and didn’t play to their full strengths.
Age caught up with most of Pep’s “old faithfuls” and once Rodri got injured, the team fell apart.
A few more injuries and huge drop offs in form for some, shown how much the team had fallen and needed refreshing.
After the treble season, we should have made some big important signings, cover for Rodri and new full backs was a must, but we didn’t make the signings and never kicked on.
We should have been in a position where a couple of tweaks, would have kept up our dominance.
Liverpool will show this season what a couple of fresh faces and top class signings will do.

Last season proved we needed to bring in players, old and slow in midfield and defence, young hungry players were required, Nico O’Reilly showed this, but never really got a chance in midfield, instead he was emergency cover at left back and did a great job, but it wasn’t sustainable.

Fast forward to January and Hugo coming in, understood the need for fresh young talent and brought players in in those midfield and CB positions, though PEP stuck with his trusted old guard.
I’d suggest it is PEP that needs to realise the changes that are required if he wants to continue with his playing style.

Hopefully he is convinced and gets the hunger, excitement and desire back in himself before imposing it on his squad of players, however will he let go of the players he loves.
Stark reality should tell him he needs to, if we are to rebuild that all conquering group of players, that “want it”.
Let’s hope he sees it.

I only hope that Pep was that stunned about the form that he felt he needed the older heads to try and stabilize things? No excuses next season though

If it’s a transition season, then expectations need lowering on the younger players/team.
Gain confidence with results and kick on, I just hope we sort out a RB before the start of preseason.

After a season like the one we just had, no one is above criticism. Not even Pep, the best manager in the world.

But it would be easier to understand this "Pep only plays his favorites" argument if the ones supposedly not getting minutes because of these "favorites" actually looked like top players when given the chance. The truth is that the team looked awful more or less regardless of who was on the pitch. In my opinion this teams main problem wasn't the "wrong" guys getting picked, its that the squad was simply not good enough. Thats what happens when the club over multiple windows let several elite serial winners leave and replace them with project players far below their level.

Pep has always stated that he's doesn't want yes men , especially in the dugout for different points of Vue, there has to be a difference of opinion because obviously things didn't go to plan last season.

As long as the discussions are constructive then who gives a fuck if they animated or not.

That's the key

City have made big decisions already in offloading kdb and walker , it's a ruthless business football and we have to be.

We can’t stop there, agents need to find clubs for Gundo, Grealish, McAtee, Kovacic, Akanji, Ake etc.

I'm going to take a guess it's those and possibly Stones. I've followed Viana since we announced him as our new Director of football, one thing that stuck out, was that at Sporting when he came in a few older players were on high wages they were kicked out the door in one summer. Also a few sporting accounts said he likes to have a low wage bill as it doesn't cause problems when selling in the future.

That was at Sporting no idea if he's trying to do that here. If he is Gundo, Bernardo, Stones are on high wages. So would make sense that he'd want them gone and new young players in on lower wages like a Khusanov.

His vision at Sporting , was smart strategic signings.prioritizes finding players who are a good fit for the club, both in terms of talent and cost
I understand your logic in saying this but surely he alone doesn't decide these things.

Viana works for Soriano and reports to him. the squad needs to be refreshed and its a big work as not only this season is very important but the next and the next after that. squad planning is huge task, you need to be able to see ahead 2-3 years. if Txiki did his job properly after the treble we would have had the squad in much better shape than it is.Viana left with cleaning up the mess sadly its at a time when rivals keep spending big and seemingly well while we deteriorated from the highs we were.

I am on board if some uncles need to be taken away from Pep even if he wants to keep them. we need a good mix of youth and experience, but too many over the hill players or just the ones that are past their prime (Ederson, Bernardo, Stones, Ake) we need to be careful.

have a feeling if there isnt a change from Txiki to Hugo maybe we renew with Walker and KDB both which I doubt would have benefited us either short or long term.

Players like Akanji won’t be looking to leave if the club doesn’t really state that he should move. Look at Chelsea they openly admit that they want 14 players gone. Yes 14!

Grealish wouldn’t look for a new club if he joined the CWC squad. You have to put some pressure on the players. Not too much but from the standpoint of: „ we are in a transition you might not get enough play time“. I don’t know what pep is telling those players but if even that isn’t the case than it’s obvious that no one is going to leave. Making Bernardo the captain is also a reason for pep to keep him in the squad and make him play most games. I personally can’t wait for the counters we are going to waste because Bernardo is more interested in either keeping the ball for too long or passing it back.

Bernardo Silva: “In the bad moments you learn new things. Who you can go to war with, first of all. Because it’s in the bad moments that you see who the real ones are. And a lot of things that were good for us – not to take things for granted, for our fans, for the club. Don’t lower our standards.

There's Bernardo standing up as a leader after the club captain fucked off mid-season, mid-crisis to play in Beckham's number for AC Milan.

His captaincy is thoroughly merited.

Generally speaking, I don't find you'll anyone who thinks we should hold on to the older players and let the younger ones go.

The "indignation" is usually directed to the ones who abuse the older players, not someone who thinks we should move them on (as do I).

Pep doesn't have players he "favours", he has players that he believes can do the job required, rightly or wrongly (his success would argue rightly).

In the past he was absolutely spot on given the trophies we won, but time waits for no man and continuing to use some of these players now while our rivals have the likes of Wirtz, Rice and Palmer is like an F1 team still trying to win with a car from 2 or 3 years ago.

Can’t fault his attitude, but it’s frustrating as hell watching him pass for passing’s sake and his powder puff shooting.

Agree to an extent with this post but surely Pep has the final say on signings in as he has to work with this etc? Gonzalez not playing more is baffling to say the least and besides a shaky 15 minutes against Chelsea, Khusanov i thought was our best defender for many games and then just vanished?
The DoF has the final word on signings but Txiki did not sign any senior player without Pep’s agreement. The new DoF might be a different kettle of fish.

It is an important point that Viana works for Soriano, who has no official position in Mcfc. Shouldn’t we have a CEO? I have posted before that there is clearly an issue that the CEO needs to bring his weight to help solve but we don’t have one.
