It's Quiet the £250m return

Spending 40m on someone to loan them out is a shambles . Be surprised he ever plays for City .
Do you mean Reis? Wasn't he £29m?

Anyway. For years we've spent around £50m upwards on defenders and now you think a teenager who is in a new country and cost around £30m is going to be ready?

I'm sure that's not what the club thought when they bought him, one year on loan could be good for him. Then he comes back when the squad has space for him, it's not a disaster.

£50m wow. Fair enough then that has surprised me. I just don't see it with him but happy to be proven wrong and wish him the best wherever he ends up. But he just doesn't have the attributes to play as a RB in my opinion and i don't see how he gets minutes in midfield. Surprised we are offering a new contract tbh.

I mean the forest semi was an example of him being useful in the middle. Also the first game last season against Chelsea as well as a couple more at the very beginning.

When he came into the team the treble season he absolutely breathed life into the side and displaced walker and cancelo. The following season he also performed well.

It's just last season when the entire team had a wobble and tbh I think he was overplayed and thrown to the wolves whilst the senior players were fucking awful - yet he was one of the ones who got the most shit.

I'm not saying he should be our starting right back, but there's absolutely a place for him in the squad for his game intelligence alone. He's also only 20 and likely to put on some weight.

The issue he had last season in particular was that there was no stability and no pace in midfield or in the back four. There are ways to get the best out of Rico from right back, you just need a better team around him. FWIW I think it's very tricky if you're going to play Dias as the RCB because he's not blessed with pace/mobility either.

I love Rico and I want him to stay at City, but I do see a world in which at best this is his last season at the club. He's at a point where he needs to go and play regularly and develop rather than being a bit part player at City.
Plus I bet he wouldn't get booked so often playing for another team.
He seems to get targeted from refs for playing in city blue for some reason

He’s 19 and from a different continent. In a position where older players have a year left on their deals
A loan where he’ll get plenty of game time and experience in a top 5 European league makes perfect sense, it’s good succession planning
Would have to push back on that, On June 20th, it was being widely reported that we wanted to keep Reis this season and that Guardiola was keen for him to stay. A month on, and it’s now increasingly looking like he and other young players will have to leave, as contracted senior players look set to remain, and their leaving is the only feasible way of whittling down our bloated squad. Our succession planning has been poor, largely because it’s been determined by what went before.

Wait and see

Brighton were ready to pay 50 million pounds last summer and play him in midfield. Granted they're not a top six team.

I wouldn't rule out the idea that someone comes in with a bid for him later in the window and he asks to leave.

Look at Rico in midfield. He’s a completely different player. Always scanning , heads on a swivel it’s natural to him. Couple of through balls to Haaland as well show he has great vision. He’s just not a fullback

Plus, he already counts as club trained, and loaning him doesn't change that. Whereas loaning out Echeverri stops him maybe being CT in the future.
Nah, Echeverri never had the chance to become CT for us and never will be in the future. That's not a point.

stop flapping , club is in sound hands and come the end of the window our squad will be better than last season, might not win us the title,as long as we get better, im sure people give themselves headaches over something that is out of their hands, everyone should have an opinion , however sharing that opinion over and over again is fucking boring

Who have the dippers lost to take them from well top 2nd or third and to counter the 100 millions they have spent on attacking talent most people think they have smashed the window and we should all give up
Bestest ever right back to play the game la

I think this is the biggest challenge that City face. They know how valuable he is and how good he is, but the level to play in our midfield is another level. I suspect that they'll try really hard to keep him because in a year Bernardo and Gundo will be gone, and probably Kovacic too. At that point a lot of space opens up in midfield and there's a world in which the four are Rodri, Gonzalez, Reijnders, and Rico.

A right back was the number one priority even before the end of the season I can't believe we would go into the new season without one.

The right back situation is absolute naivety. You're not winning a league with Nunes there as well as he's done.

Keep seeing people say Pep/Backroom staff will have a plan to deal with it, which is exactly what we heard about not signing a Rodri back up last season. Fast forward to September I think it'll look a horrendous mistake.

Much as I trust pep…..we need a right back
Even if it’s a stop gap for a year
We play Nunes there and we won’t win anything this season

I suggest a song for Matty Nunes to calm you guys down from panicing..

MATTEUS

MATTEUS

MATTEUS

BEST RIGHT BACK IN THE LAND AND ALL THE WORLD!

Now calm down and support the club!

Reis and his agent probably got the impression Akanji, Ake, Stones likely all stay with Gvardiol, Dias being the main CB pair as well. even Khusanov is ahead of him in the pecking order who will struggle for minutes if nobody is leaving from this department.

a loan is good for Reis inn this case, as he need to play to improve and if he can get regular minutes in a CL side, thats much better than 2 PL starts, 3 Carabao starts all season here.

I guess the run in during the treble season is instructive of how you can play without Walker. I also think in general, Pep is one step ahead of all of us. If he's happy to not sign a right back, which he will be if they're not signing one, then he's got a plan.
I keep thinking back to that formation, but the trouble is in Stones' absence, Pep seems to think Akanji is the one to play the ball instead of being the deep channel defender he was superb at.

I'll be happy to go back to that with Gvardiol given a go as the progressive defender or Stones again seeing as hes fit for who knows how long

Oh yes, Marmoush and O'Reilly did very well, but Marmoush came in flying from Germany, and O'Reilly played with vast experience beside him. Yes, fatigue, both mental AND physical.

Could you tell me whom you believe is the outstanding RB at Liverpool? I guess you believe that they will be the league winners, and where our 'gaping' holes are?

Reis, Echeverri and Nypan may make a difference, or may not and will be loaned, but the idea that we have only bought three players is not true, though I respect that you were referring to this summer only.
I don't know who Liverpool's outstanding RB is but all I'll say is that they lost TAA and they replaced him instantly with one of the most attacking fullbacks in Europe. They've also got that young lad who came in a few times and seem to do quite well. The point is, they've got 2 actual right backs whereas we've got a failed attacking midfielder and a young kid who looks severely out of his depth operating as ours.

I think our gaping holes are at right back & at centre half where we have Stones, Ake & Akanji who I don't think have ever completed a full season without some form of significant injury. That isn't criticism of them, it's just how it is.

I think we lack pace both at the back and in midfield and whilst we have signed Reijnders & Cherki, I still think we're a player short. We're also lacking a significant goal threat outside of Marmoush & Haaland, especially out wide. Doku and Savinho's numbers are way short of where they need to be in order for us to mount a serious challenge both domestically and in Europe. I really hope this season will be the breakthrough season for them both.

We'll be there or thereabouts, whether we've currently got enough to win it, I'm not sure
