It's Quiet the £250m return

agreed. Its such a shame about his injuries. He is genuinely world class in all aspects of the game. He stays fit I belive we have a genuine chance at winning the league (for me he is nearly as important as Rodri) - however how likely is that?
It is improbable, but I agree - he is a huge player for us. Neither Akanji nor Dias can bring the ball into midfield with the same confidence, creativity, or aura that he can. That is not a criticism of those players, just the reality that JS is a supreme player.

Yup
You just know both Stones and Ake go away with the international teams and return with an injury - its literally like clockwork.
Well, we know that they’re both keen to go to the World Cup, so those are 6 games that we need to work around. I can quite easily envisage them playing in their respective international double headers, so that might mean we then have to minimise their involvement in the games directly after: that lot (H), Everton (H), Newcastle United (A). The same could hold for Rodri as well. By dint of preventing injuries and accommodating internationals, we might find ourselves operating with a skeletal squad.

Play them before and then say if you aint 100% after those games you dont go.

It's got to be frustrating for him. Imagine getting injured and then having medical professionals tell you they don't know why your injured.

Stones said his injuries last season were doubly frustrating because they could not be explained by City's medical staff. He added: "I don't know what the reason is, and we've sat with the medical staff, sports science, to try and figure out why. Some things can't be explained.

Then it’s all got to be in his head, as with Sturridge & Jovetic.

And if that happens then Khusanov gets a chance to stake his claim...isnt that what most of our fans want?

Either we get a fit Stones/Ake or Khusanov gers a chance, sounds not too bad for me

I really don’t believe that the club is done this summer. There’s too many players and I think the one hole to fix can only happen when there’s outgoings. If you can’t ship out players because they don’t want to leave what do you ? Send them to the reserves, doubt it. Tell them they won’t play, but then the wage bills stays high.

We need to get back to closing teams down quickly. If Pep continues to play the older players with no legs then we will be caught in transition all the time. This is what left us vulnerable at the back last season plus some stupid errors. If Rodri and Foden can come back anywhere near their previous level it’s like another two top signings.
Guardiol at centre back, playing there regularly if like he is for his country will also help.
Was worried about Nunes at RB but his attacking i guess are excellent so if wanting a good wing back he’s not an horrendous option as there aren’t many who are good at both attacking and defending. Livramento’s attacking figures are woeful

if we really have a 250m kitty as the title says which now looks less than what rivals spending, we are still far away from that.
Reinjders 55m
Cherki 30m
Ait Nouri 34m
Nypan 12
Trafford 27

we are at about 160m spent, but still hopefully 50m worth of players to be sold, McAtee should bring 30m of that alone.
Ortega, Akanji, Gundo, Grealish should bring another 30-40m overall. that could see us net spend of 90m? doubt thats it for us while rivals spending net above 250m...

Not being able to rely on your first choice world class centre half isnt great.

Again, why Ive said we need to add an experience centre half to the squad - add this to the fact we aint got a right back at all and it doesnt look great

I wonder if the issue was psychological as much as physical. We all know that when you're overcoming injury, you can struggle to be free of the feelings that the injury brought on. If he feels great now, that's a blessing. Let's hope that it lasts.

I don't know how realistic it is for us to lose too many more experienced heads in one summer. There is a human, cultural impact to making changes on that scale. You need the squad to evolve, of course, but having experienced leaders who can pass on the culture, the standards, that have defined Guardiola's City seems to be an overlooked aspect by many on here

These are lads who have gone through everything together. They've played, trained, traveled, won, and lost with each other. Coming into day one of training, the look and feel of the squad will already be very different. We've already lost some huge figures in the dressing room with KDB, Walker, Grealish (won't be rejoining the squad realistically after the CWC snub), Carson (obviously not a factor on the pitch but a big character in the squad), plus a few on the coaching side

Bernardo has been made captain specifically to be a standard bearer of what it means to play for this team. To instill those values and how we approach the game, both tactically and mentally. I don't think one more year of Bernardo, Stones et al providing that critical cultural link while our younger players settle in or get vital game time on loan is the disaster that many are predicting

I agree. It is about balance.
I said several weeks ago that I would like Stones to be able help Reis' understanding of the hybrid CB/CDM role, so I feel it unfortunate that Reis looks like being loaned, but you have to let young players of his quality play. Having proper loan arrangements that genuinely allow players to return as members of the first-team is the right way; there is too big a gap from academy to top-level PL.
