Kovacic, Gundogan have nothing to do with whether Echeverri would get minutes next season Bernardo, Foden, Cherki,Bobb,Savinho all do. So yes best if he goes and plays and proves he has what it takes to take Bernardo's place,and maybe Savinho or Bobb next season. Nypan will have the same challenge to come back and take Gundogan and Kovacic's place.
There are pathways and opportunities for all these players though, now they need to prove themselves and take it.

I'd feel a shit load calmer if I saw significant movement in moving many of them on. Yes, we have 3-4 weeks of the window to go, but "I'm staying" means "I'm staying" if these players have the contracts to back them up.

IMO, you are basing far too much on one season, one riddled with injury and illness.
This season, we clearly will have more options than playing injured players. We have cover, and we certainly won't need to use all of the legendary players in every cup game we play.
You could also focus on the clear direction that the new DOF is providing - the aim is clear.
Anyway, enough from me on this tired subject.

Exactly this.
We assume that the more senior players automatically block pathways. There are seventy games in a season, and two domestic cups as well as the PL and CL that are all that are spoken of.

Not if they are ageing, injury-prone & have failing physicality & legs. They're of little use to us on the treatment table as we've seen.

There's no doubting their previous quality & statuses, but aside from Akanji, I think it's in City’s best interests to move them all on & if possible to bring in a reduced price Lucas Paqueta, who can cover 6, 8, 10 & play right wing. This makes total sense to me.

Think you’re confusing wanting a smaller squad than we had second half of last season when 2 players couldn’t be registered with small squad. I expect he’s happy with 24 players . Think we’ll end up with 25 17 NHG 3 HG 3 T and 2 U21s with the main squad.

Is it possible that, as the window begins to close, the clubs help force the hand of a player or two by letting them know they will be omitted from the squad?

Still too many moving parts to accurately discuss who will and will not be on the Squad List, and that includes possibly having to pay partial wages of players we want to move on as the transfer window closes.

There are myriad scenarios possible, so it seems premature, at a minimum, to discuss a few of our older more experienced (and thus highly successful!) players in such derogatory terms.

Kova, for instance, is recovering from surgery and might well be a last minute transfer, but clubs like to know they’re buying a player who can actually help them out of the gate.
