assuming Savinho leaving maybe, and Ortega. wouldnt one more foreign player need to leave for any to arrive?

Ederson, Ait Nouri, Gvardiol, Dias, Khusanov, Akanji, Ake, Nunes, Nico, Rodri, Bernardo, Kova, Gundo, Doku, Haaland, Cherki, Marmoush thats 17 players just at the limit.

Yes, my only guess is as we were looking at loaning Echeverri and selling Ortega before the Savinho thing blew up, we had a plan for getting it down to 17. No idea what it was but maybe it’s still happening and if Savinho leaves we can replace him.
Ake is homegrown though missing Reijnders.

youth ones Echeverri, Nypan, not sure they could be part of the squad due to their age. maybe CL yes, PL no, not sure. but both of them 99% leaving on loan so doesnt matter.

Imagine if we are down to 6 attackers for 4 positions because we've kept all of Stones, Akanji, Ake, Gundogan, Kovacic, Bernardo.

Would be a pretty poor bit of squad management across the window.

In all honesty, if we are going to buy someone else with all these sudden outgoings id go for Baleba at Brighton...

Rags are linked with him but he is an absolute monster in midfield.....I know its not a replacement for the outgoings but that central core of midfield with Baleba, Rodri and Reijnders would be so strong.

No chance Akanji, or any defender leaves. Selling him or any other defender puts us back down to the same number of defenders we went into last season with. I don't need to remind a fellow blue of how we struggled to have a fit back 4 for most of the duration because we went into the season with too few defenders in the squad. It would be a sackable offence to repeat that horrendous mistake.

I don't think there is really any justification for having more than 5 CDs in the squad for (most likely) 2 places. Without Akanji, we'd still have Ake, Dias, Stones, Gvardiol and Khusanov, plus we have a couple of very highly rated academy CBs. Having 6 seems too many to me.

Obviously Stones and Ake are both injury prone but are also HG, so Akanji would appear to be the most likely to leave.

Having said that, I think they'll probably all end up staying this season.

I still think one central defender will be gone by end of window, agree I’d hope it was Akanji. Having 6 is ridiculous.

As I said in an earlier post, Pep has the opportunity to send a message with his team and sub selections in early part of season as to who is left at home, let’s see.
 
we dont always have that crazy injury spell for defenders specifically. it was horrible last year, but we never had it so bad usually. Akanji wasnt injury prone before last season. Ake also breaks down a few times during the season but not so badly as last season. Stones is a different topic, imo even he will be generally fitter due to upcoming WC, albeit still made of glass.:)

but with LB specialist signed, I guess Gvardiol is a CB going forward, which is not how last season started.

more of a issue a proper RB isnt signed.

in case injuries arent that HUGE problem this season it leave Ake, Stones, Khusanov, Akanji with very limited playing time because Dias, Gvardiol imo is the starting CB duo. but that injury situation where mutiple injuries in same position happens at the same time is fucking rare, almost like what if Ederson, Trafford, Bettinelli gets injured at same time, what then?

btw I would like if we keep our CB duo, rather than change every game. I think it helps Liverpool and Arsenal too to have a Saliba-Gabriel, and Konate-Dijk duo which is almost never rotated, changed for most of the games unless injuries.
for us Pep sometimes changes it without much reason, and we need defensive stability. so choose a duo and stick to it. better for fullbacks too to get used to one duo rather than any two defenders put there.
