This was always going to be a transition season after the shambles of last season. The problem is the ones we have signed aren’t enough. We are still imo 4 or 5 first 11 players away from challenging to win the big 2 trophies.

They wanted Livramento so obviously know that we need a right-back (they’re not fucking stupid!) so you either go balls out for him or, failing that, have a contingency plan. What happens if no-one fits the exact profile next summer either? Can’t write off another season with Nunes and Lewis, whilst we bide our time. I fail to believe there wasn’t a better, attainable option than those two out there this summer.

Pedro Porro for Savinho would have done the job until someone quality emerges. We’ve seen a handful of right backs come through and not given a chance. But Rico and Nunes consistently show they aren’t fit for it but can be given more chances. It’s madness.

But we spent last January gambling on new signings. we can't afford to continue to gamble, if we are going to sign players from this point forward, we have to be spending it on proven commodities and less on players with potential who we hope can one day be first-team regulars.

We have spent (NET) bugger all compared to our supposed rivals this window. With KDB, Grealish, Walker and a couple more seemingly out the door tomorrow, our wage bill will have massively come down. Hopefully this will strengthen our position to bring some top quality.

I just live in hope they are holding out for the right profile player that is attainable rather than signing (another) average one.

With regards to a right back, it doesn't look like a position that's going to get resolved this window. But from what ive seen, Khusanov looks like the next decent candidate for Pep to rework his Delph/Zinchenko make shift full back role.

I was getting impatient with our transfer window last week as it looked like no progress had been made on Donnarumma. Now it appears to be on. If City end the window with two top class players in Reijnders and Donnarumma joining, then that will be a good window.

I was impressed with Trafford today at Brighton but I want players in our squad who raise the excitement level of our squad. I want City players to be flying all week at training, and to be completely committed on the pitch. That's what I hope will be the effect of Donnarumma signing. I imagine being a player and walking out with Donnarumma in my team. It would make me feel larger than life. We need that state of mind.

Let's sign him first and then think about the changes it's going to have on our side.

Way too many not good enough in our squad. Our rivals know it, only have to hear the way rival fans speak about our squad now they know we are fucked, it’s the same way we used to speak about and dismiss other clubs simply because we knew their players weren’t close to being as good as ours. Major surgery was needed, as a minimum we needed a right back and to upgrade on the wing in addition to the lads we’ve bought.

In fairness, Marmoush and Gonzalez should not be perceived as gambles. Their playing experience and fees suggested they would be ready-made, though for the latter things have not yet worked out. Similarly, Ait-Nouri and Reijnders are first-team ready. Our main problem is getting them all on the field with the likes of Rodri, Bernardo, Gvardiol, Stones, Haaland, Dias, and Foden. Add a solid goalkeeper and right-back and we suddenly have a very strong nucleus with numerous flair players to add.

we literally cannot play out from the back comfortably. Something we used to do so easily as if it was breathing we literally hoof it upfield and it comes straight back to us cuz Haaland isn’t good at hold up play or the pass is never accurate.

What we need to do is get bodies around Haaland for the second ball if the keeper continues to launch it, not leave him isolated with 3 or 4 opposition players around him. That's just basic football, and is down to the coaching staff to sort out because it's an embarrassment at this level to hoof it to one player and hope for the best.

Our dealings this year are made uniquely difficult by the need to ship out contracted players first, many of whom have appeared, understandably, unwilling to leave. It could be that we have had players lined up for some time but have been unable to finalise matters until now. To my mind, such signings would not be panic buys just because they sign on the final day.

You think Reijnders - who so far has completely disappeared in 2 straight games when the going got tough - is top class? That's a hell of a show of faith. Flat track bullying an awful Wolves team doesn't exactly count for much either.

As a matter of interest who else did we beat off to sign the guy? I'd reserve full judgement on him until we've seen the season out but he looks weak as piss when the chips are down.
