It's Quiet the £250m return

I just want to address something regarding @Damien10 .
I don’t ever recall him saying we were signing a right back in this window. I think he said we were active. Several paths can be followed from there.
Also if anyone thinks he is a chancer there is an ignore button.

He did however clarify later what he meant, which credit where due is always more admirable than hiding behind vague proclamations that can mean anything that people shoehorn into being 'right' if they want to.

As far back as a even couple years ago, I would have pointed out on here he got a couple big-ish calls right, when he put himself out there less than he did this window, and people questioned who he was. Whether pure luck guesses or real 'inside pointers', never really cared myself. This summer, hasn't really worked out the same, them's the breaks, and really don't see any harm in it. Up to people what they take from it.

You've bought into the media led idea to compare our spending over two windows to the dippers one.
So we haven't spent roughly the same amount of money this year? I haven't bought into anything, I've just compared the business

You'd have to assume there's going to be some type of trade off with the style of the GK in relation to certain parts of our play at times. The forum will be interesting should a mistake be made at the back, which is a distinct possibility.
Not my analysis but apparently PSG used Donnarumma just giving it to a centre backs,or Rodri dropping back and they built from there, the thing I saw had us with a more physical midfield 3 from Rodri, Gonzalez, Reijnders, Bernardo, Foden. O'Reilly.

Is he going to sign a new contract?

He should be club captain. Thats very evident from watching the Together and the other City documentary
once Silve will run out his contract, then Rodri will be the captain, he is the logical answer

August 2015. AC Milan were playing Tottenham in a pre-season Audi Cup game at Munich's Allianz Arena. Watching on was Bayern Munich head coach Pep Guardiola.

After the game, Guardiola approached someone who caught his eye - a 16-year-old goalkeeper who came on at half-time called Gianluigi Donnarumma.

"He played out the back a lot in that game," recalls Alfredo Magni - AC Milan's goalkeeper coach at the time - to Sky Sports. "He was very supportive to the team by getting involved in many pieces of play.

"And Guardiola, at the end of the game, came up to congratulate him for his inclination to play out."

While many have pointed out that Donnarumma's shot-stopping is his best trait, Magni disagrees.

"It's his attitude to learn and make the coach's requests happen," he says. "His greatest quality - in addition to his physicality, is the talent to learn things and to apply what is asked of him on the pitch.

"Attitude is one thing, but traits are another. If someone has the attitude to do something, they put it into those traits. This is his greatest quality.

"His distribution is not good enough for a Guardiola team," said French football expert Julien Laurens to Sky Sports News this summer. So is he still that goalkeeper who played out from the back so fearlessly as a 16-year-old under Guardiola's gaze?

"It's not that he cannot play with his feet, but it hasn't been put forward to him by the coaches in the way that he can do it," says Magni.

"He is geared to learning, which is part of his talent. When you face difficulties, you react in order to overcome the problems. He is really talented at this."

I posted a similar article yesterday and some people got their knickers in a twist.

Brace yourself...

I think we need a little perspective.

What were we realistically expecting ?

A RB, Midfielder, and a LB we got two out of three.

I assumed that one or both of Ederson and Ortega would go. I had this fantasy football idea we would get two amazing young apparently very good with there feet goalies like Diogo Costa, Joan Garcia, or Lucas Chevalier. Having not watched them.

The realistic outcome was probably one of them and keeping Ortega.

We ended up with a home grown goalie and amazing shot stopper.

Interestingly just google top ball playing goalies and Henderson and Pickford rank highly. Assume that’s long ball rather than short passing or good with feet which is slightly different

We managed to get Nypan which was unexpected.

In an ideal world I would have liked a CB but that wasn’t on the table or something I was worried about at the start of the window.

In terms of out goings we got good price for youth players. Nearly got an amazing price for Savinho but probably a good job we kept him given who could have replaced him.

Have managed to move Akanji on didn’t have any strong feelings about him before the window shame about it being a loan. Assume Gundogan has left which is good. Shame Philips hasn’t left. Shame we haven’t been able to sell Ortega. A shame a few other youth players haven’t gone like Esbrand.

So really we have finished the window with an unexpected extra goalie and midfielder and a few extra players we don’t want but no right back.

Had the other clubs not done what they have done I think we would be being very positive like we where when the first few deals got done like most people seemed to be till deadline day even tho deadline day wasn’t really going to change anything. This has probably also been affect by the fists few results but let’s see how they pan out when everyone is use to each other

They're a basketcase of a club.

But the funny thing is its accepted every year that they're going to have the highest net spend, or thereabouts.

Get away with no scrutiny as they wear red.

We spent a bit in January to refresh the squad and everyone was up in arms about it.
Just been a Villa fan on Sky criticising the fact that rags can spend so much whilst being billion in debt yet Villa who have no debt, can’t spend. Sky presenter in background looked very twitchy :-). After all, nobody can say things like that about red clubs. Soon moved on to adverts :-)
