This is some hilarious propaganda right here. I'd go easy on that if I were them.

This is exactly what Tolmie predicted. It starts to focus attention away from Bartomeu's ineptitude and onto Messi's love for the club. If he does leave for a fee it then enables Bartomeu to save face(ish) and Messi to deliver on his love for the club by allowing them to rebuild with the funds received.

I don't see it as over just yet. It just puts an end to the free transfer but Tolmie has always said the money for this deal is all Messi's unless a fee is payable. This just means he gets less from the pot.

However, there's still the rather large hurdle of Bartomeu and how much it would take to secure him. €100m is a great deal for Barca compared to nada in a year. But Bartomeu might not give a shit. He wouldn't be president then. It would be someone elses problem. That way he can maintain he wasn't the man that sold Messi, he was the man that kept him despite him wanting to leave.

What I don’t get, is that messi recorded that video (if it’s the video Tolmie is referring to) days ago! Was this all just a big ruse to force out the president and secure a lucrative new contract?

Maybe they let City know of the video but not what it is all about. Could be a big surprise to City as well what was announced in the video.

They do the statement about the 700m euros not valid anymore, that is kind of pointing towards leaving/going to court/fighting for leaving

Then 3 hours later he does interview this published which is the polar opposite.

Well time for us to actually concentrate on getting proper targets in with what’s left of the transfer window,as for messi and Barcelona deary me I’m hoping he doesn’t sign an extension and goes for free next season,as for Barcelona slap it right up them if he does go for free and I hope they struggle to recapture any previous glory what are they going to do once ( regardless if messi does sign an extension) messi does retire or leave Barca what actually are they doing as a club to build again it’s all fucking scatter gun signings they’ll probably have him still playing when he’s forty thinking he’s like Peter Pan the cnuts ...

I don't even know what your point is with that, but if you think it's a good idea to do this with Messi & to appoint Ronald Koemann than I imagine you probably think Utd have been well run since Ferguson as well.
Is Koeman good enough for where Barca want to be? Dubious, but he knows the club and could be a good fit. But the point is they were shit against Bayern and the manager and sporting director lost their jobs because of it. They've got a new manager, so it could go either way.
Barca have apparently suddenly become crap yet they've still got Ter Stegen, Coutinho, de Jong, Dembele, Griezeman and Messi. Sounds like a decent starting point. I suspect it'll take a couple of seasons to get to where they want and potentially another manager, so you can see why Messi wanted out at 33, but it would still make zero sense for them to let Messi go FOR FREE. If we go back in with a £100m.bid, they've got something to start building with but what's happened today is the President has won his battle with Messi to stop him walking away for free, meaning they lose the best player in the world and get nothing for it. And that's why I (originally) said I think the president has come out of this on top - he was unpopular and nothing with this was going to change it, but he either keeps Messi for at least another season or he gets to sell him rather than watching him walk. The Messi clan have blinked first, meaning they've lost the power they've had over the last few years.

I don't know how anyone could be disappointed in their actions without knowing what's going on.

For all we know, City and Messi are on the same page, he needed to be let go for free, they tried to go public vs. La Liga to get them to back down, but Bartomeu stood firm.

I'm sure more details will emerge when people like TH, the Barcelona connected journalists and the city ones get the full story from the respective parties. Then we can take a crack at judging what's happened.

I personally feel that had the interview saying he will stay not happened so close to the public challenge to la liga, it might have pressured Barca more and worked in our favour.

Just IMO dont think he will come to us either this year or next. Just a feeling I have re family and the upheaval for them and that Bart has stated he won't be remembered as the President who sold Messi. Barts days are numbered he knows that but suspect he doesn't give a shit given the performance he has already given. New President may offer Messi new contract till end of playing days which would take pressure off Messis family and enable him with dignity to stay at the club he obviously loves so much. (It would be nice if I could be proved wrong and will be the first to eat humble pie if he ends up at ours).

Watching the whole interview, I don’t see how that’s him putting pressure on the board to allow him to go or inviting city to make a bid or anything of that nature that gives hope this can still happen this summer. His tone seemed very definitive to me it was one of an acceptance he will have to stay for another year. He and his dad/lawyers etc will have made sure his words were very deliberate, there were different ways of saying things if he still thought he could get out this month.

If we were able to stick a contract in front of him now for 12 months time I suspect he would sign it but January is a long time away in football terms Bartomeu will surely be out of the club before then, maybe he gets along with the new guy, maybe he likes Koeman and his ideas and sees some sparks of life in a fastly declining side. It’s going to be a very annoying wait to see how this plays out, still a very real chance we will get to see Messi in a City shirt, just a little longer than we had hoped.
Saying the board is a disaster is directly putting pressure on them.....its a huge public criticism of them - I dont recall ever such a public attack on a club by one of its own players (especially not one so big)
