Pep's last game cast a shadow but overall he's City's biggest footballing asset. However, I am very surprised that we haven't strengthened the central defence much further.

Look at the last game against Lyon. Pep was so scared of City's defensive weakness that he changed our line up and style of play to protect the defensive weakness.

Ake is a fine player. Fits the Pep version of a footballing defensive player but such was City's defensive weakness last season that I don't think it's enough to plug the gap. We really need a quick dominant right sided central defender who can partner Laporte/Ake.

I think we are happy to leave it late to get Koulibaly. I reckon discussions will have been had with Pep, and he will have been relaxed about it.

From watching Laporte I have marveled at his ability with both feet. Whilst I am not advocating it as a long term solution I believe Laporte will fill in at right centre back, with Ake to his left.

With zinchenkos agent saying they would be happy to listen to a Napoli proposal if city wanted to include him in the Koulibaly deal surely that must be an option? Bear in mind zinc only cost us €1.5m I think?

This is only a hunch but I believe this still rests on Messi. If City have his word that he’ll sign in a free next season then we’ll just sign KK or equivalent this window. If we believe Messi is done then I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if we spend 200m on KK and Halaand/Sancho. Think we’ve got big signings lined up either way.

I agree with the idea but I think it was a very leading question by the journalist in question that led to that response - but who knows it could happen

According to someone who spoke to City on Friday we are currently "miles and miles apart" from Napoli's valuation of Koulibaly.

Hard to see the deal not getting done if I'm honest, but suspect that it will go to the last couple of days of the window.

I'm surprised people are so down on the squad we have when Liverpool have done nothing and United have done next to nothing. Chelsea the only club who have had an 'impactful' window in the top 4.

Going to be a hell of a race even if nobody signs anyone else including us!

Seems like we are Sleepwalking into another shit season. Fiddling while Rome burns.
Points at the start of the season are worth just as much as points at the end. We are in danger of being seriously undercooked for Wolves and Leicester while the usual suspects will still insist Stones and Garcia ‘just need time’.
None of the blatantly obvious problems are being addressed. Four years into Guardiola’s tenure as manager and the same old flaws remain. Centre back replacement for Vinnie and an even vaguely competent left back neglected for square pegs in round holes who are ‘versatile’ and can ‘do a job’ there.
All our rivals for the Champions League have specialists in those positions. FFS. Even fucking Southampton, Burnley and Leeds have specialists in those positions.
To not have a left back worthy of the name after, what, seven or eight years in the job is gross incompetence on the part of Begiristain. Even the happiest of clappers must accept that.
Meanwhile there is a Captain Ahab-style doomed pursuit of the Barcelona of a 10/15 years ago. The ghost of what Messi used to be and a Poundland Busquets who turns slower than milk protecting a depressingly ropey defence. Gundogan present at every failure and every big game, just to twist the knife.
Garcia is short and slow as a man in diving boits filled with cowshit - and even he wants to leave. But his agent is Pep and Txiki’s Catalan mate so lets keep developing a lad for Barcelona rather than fucking him off and developing a lad for City instead. Defend that one, Clappers.
We need to drop the Barcelona obsession and develop this club in its own right. We need to defend and promote our own identity not be content to be a second hand tribute act.
We should be seeking to be the very best at everything, on and off the field. And if that means telling a few sacred cows that the best of everything doesn’t necessarily come from Catalonia then fuck them
Don’t agree with everything (some of it, yes) but this is a fine post to liven up an ailing thread.

This! ^

No sugar coating, just stark truths that some blinkered blues can't see through blue tinted specs.
