We managed 198 points in 2 seasons without a leftback. Pep won everything at Barca with a CB playing LB.

Its not the issue. Never has been, its just not that important a position.

When the rest of the team is sorted the LB position won't be an issue.

We have to clear a foreign spot for every additional player we bring in now, and I can’t see many queueing up to take Mendy or Gundogan off our hands - regrettably - so a sudden influx before the end of the window just isn’t gonna happen.

In a way it's extremely fitting that not bothering to replace Vinny last summer somehow cost us another game a year and a half later. If only we had managed to sign our "first" choice defender sooner than three weeks into a new season.

Also it's insane to me that we aren't trying to sign a Fernandinho replacement or upgrading Zinchenko. Zero foresight.

Its simply not the problem. You can spend 80m on a lb and feel better, have one less scapegoat on the pitch, but we'd still lose today, nothing would be different.

Or we could spend it on fixing the midfield and walk the league with Mendy or Zinchenko at LB.

A midfielder is a must but I’m afraid the board don’t see it. By all accounts it’s just been striker and LB that we’ve considered. Activate Douglas Luiz’s clause if necessary.
