What happens if Barca refuse to accept that Messi has triggered his release clause legally?

If they dig their heals in and say "Nope... He's still a Barca player" then I presume he can't actually sign for us (or anyone) until it's sorted out in the courts?

For one they will piss of Messi and then lose him for nowt zero end of this season while now they could negotiate a bit of a fee and maybe a player or 2 it’s a massive gamble for them if Messi is serious about leaving.

Apparently Messi and his dad/agent spoke to UEFA prior to handing in the transfer request to check their legal position.

It certainly doesn't seem like Messi would go nuclear without checking to see if he could really leave, but I guess its not impossible.

Maybe the clubs could arrange a fee of say €100-150m subject to a legal challenge. Messi gets to leave so Barcelona arent holding him hostage, the new club gets him and the courts can decide over a few months who is in the right?

I think all other potential transfers are on hold until we see if we can get Messi or not. I think that is the real reason it's gone a bit quiet.

cos UEFA always get it right on matters on arbitration...

Sky are fucking shitting themselves at the thought of Messi joining City

It was too much for one day... trying to orchestrate a Harry is innocent campaign is hard enough but now they’ll have to start convincing us that Messi is no match for Fernandez!

They have quite a long record on contract disputes at CAS and win almost every single one.

Remember CAS side with the authoritative body 90% of the time, just because our win was in the 10%, doesn't mean the general trend has changed.
