Imagine the unveiling, a la Apple & Steve Jobs keynote speeches.

Interviewer: 'Now that you've signed the contract, Welcome! Messi to Manchester City, congratulations!'
Messi: Thankyou, I'm so, so happy to be here.
Interviewer: 'Heh, you sound very like Pep! Any further comment to make?'
Messi: Well there is one more thing...

<Pep comes into camera shot, Pep sits down, smiles, pulls out a City headed contract and pen, signs his contract and winks>

This would be closer to what I expect, should we sign Messi

This won't work in my opinion.

Look at the heat map of every Messi game in his entrie career and its always going to be dominated by him playing inside right. Whether he plays as a false 9 or RW or normal number 10 which Argentina tried, hes going to find himself in the space between KdB and Mahrez on your pitch.

If he goes in midfied he has to be on the right and KDB will have to adapt. Which isn't impossible.

But then Mahrez will spend all game standing 3 feet from Messi just watching.

If Messi is in midfield, you want pacey runners ahead of him, not Mahrez who comes short and checks back into the same spaces.

I dont think we are going to tell Messi he has to massively change his game. We will try to put him into our starting lineup as easily as possible and IMO that means him replacing the RW position occupied by Mahrez/Bernardo all last season.
