I don’t know what they hope to achieve with this refusing to negotiate stance, I’m guessing they’re putting all their eggs in the “lets hope he changes his mind in time” basket.

Keeping him against his wishes is damaging the relationship with the best player in the world and the clubs biggest legend. At absolute best case scenario, they keep him for a year, he’s deeply unhappy, Won’t have the motivation to drag that mess of a team to challenge for anything, Barca win nothing and still require a major overhaul, they upset Messi and lose him on a free next summer. How’s that good for Barca, Messi or anybody? Their best and only option is to get on our good aide and hope we take pity and offer them a token fee and allow them the option of a few of our expendable players.
