They aren’t. CFG are.Which with my limited understanding has no impact on City’s profit and loss. This is nonsense. If City are talking about making a payment in shares connected with his employment a) it is a P&L item and b) FFP has anti avoidance measures that will adjust the P&L for such transactions.
The last para is also nonsense.
He should pay his tax like a normal person or he will get hunted for it from HMRC, we dont want his time here to be being chased by the tax manMay have missed something , but I thought the talk of CFG shares were to avoid paying wages from City so making it affordable avoiding FFP violations and that they wouldn’t be cashed until after he left again to avoid it coming from the club. Didn’t think avoiding tax was a driving consideration behind it.
There is no such thing as "perfectly legal" under ffp. We have seen ffp gives great scope to UEFA to allow, adjust, disallow, revalue etc. They won't fall through the traps next time.
Well how about discussing it in an FFP thread in the main forum then, seeing as the majority on here are more interested in us signing the guy rather than giving a shit about how we pay him.Except the point is it is pretty much impossible to rock solid sure unless a) he's taking a 50% paycut and we aren't paying a fee or b) we are "creating" c.€200m of player sale profits. The point on Castles podcast that I responded to suggested using shares could never be "rock solid" because it has never been tried before.
So your simple analysis is probably wishful thinking. And that is why some of us are interested. In fact, given there is no debate as to whether he's actually going to improve us or be fun to watch, how we can actually afford him whilst protecting the next 10 years of success is some people's key interest in the days before we sign him. It is mine and it should be the board's...I'm sure it is.
Nobody has said he shouldn’t or won’t.He should pay his tax like a normal person or he will get hunted for it from HMRC, we dont want his time here to be being chased by the tax man
I am going off him
FFP gives UEFA power to adjust certain items in the P&L. If it thinks City are loading costs artificially into CFG it will do us. And it now knows exactly which buttons to press, how to ask for information, what to sanction us for non-compliance, what to argue at CAS etc etc. We are playing with fire if we try and be too smart. Either he works as a City signing under FFP without loads of bells and whistles or he doesn't. The wolves (literally and metaphorically) are waiting eagerly for us to slip up.How does it work if Messi gets shares in the CFG which is outside UEFA ?
what you debating? is he good? will he score a shit load? where he will play? Either way, I'll oblige and log off in a minute when I am ready. Feel free to read my posts or not.Well how about discussing it in an FFP thread in the main forum then, seeing as the majority on here are more interested in us signing the guy rather than giving a shit about how we pay him.
You're going off him based on a load of information which has no basis in fact. Everything is guesswork at the moment. He should pay his tax like a normal person or he will get hunted for it from HMRC, we dont want his time here to be being chased by the tax man

I've answered this above. It is not that simple. They aren’t. CFG are.Which with my limited understanding has no impact on City’s profit and loss.
after we’ve won it three times and we’ll all be laughing. They won't need to - they can take action in 3 years time.

I AM A MORON. Without selling a player (or swapping one) to create a massive fat profit (say Jesus at a notional €100m, we almost certainly can't afford it under FFP as it stands.after we’ve won it three times and we’ll all be laughing.
anyone thinking we can’t afford this deal is literally a moron.
Unless we actually get him on a free?I AM A MORON. Without selling a player (or swapping one) to create a massive fat profit (say Jesus at a notional €100m, we almost certainly can't afford it under FFP as it stands.
Said exactly the same yesterday, seemed I was the only one concerned by this.Christ, are we really going to do this nonsense again. We will not beat UEFA next time. FFP gives UEFA plenty of power to sanction the club. It will not make the same mistakes next time. We are playing with fire.
If that is the deal there is no issue. But if at 35/36 his wages jump to £1.5m pw, you think UEFA etc won't twig? They won't fuck up the investigation this time. But surely, they can only legislate for the part where he plays for Manchester City ?
If he has a 2 year deal for MCFC for 275k pw, then moves to China or USA, how can they police it then ?
Yes that would help but still very hard to see how a €250m+ deal over 2 years is affordable.Unless we actually get him on a free?
