This seems far more simple if the right to terminate the contract was tied into the end of the season rather than a specific date. FIFA had already confirmed the position in relation to the extended season and the clause is therefore clearly in place to allow Messi time to reflect and decide once the relevant season has been completed. It would therefore be reasonable to accept that, due to Covid, that time would be to the revised season end and not still back in May/June.

La Liga's response is to be expected. They've seen Neymar, Ronaldo and now Messi look to leave so commercially they're in a weak position compared to a few years ago. What other headline players are there that would make people want to tune in? A few rising stars but you'd watch English, German, Italian and probably French football before turning to La Liga if Messi leaves.

but Messi is a meal ticket for so many people, even the Spanish media it would seem?

This up there - biggest understatement of the year lol

Of course, you have to!

Gotta say, thought the politics would have been over by Tuesday of this week and down to business, but Messi is a meal ticket for so many people, even the Spanish media it would seem?

I think some on here need to remind themselves the president has history of influencing social media by paying over the odds to firms in that sector. This is no different, news or info confirming Messi’s stance is very quickly followed by the same Barça based accounts claiming breaking news Messi to stay. The latter overshadows the former. It’s a media war and last ditch attempt to hold on to the leagues cash cow.

You'd hope by now that Txiki / Ferran even Khaldoon could drop him a text and just say look we're going to support you go nuclear and get that approach FIFA and get that transfer certificate

I like it but it is a little......

He might actually have something there though.
Lots of us were asking how on earth uefa took this case through two ffp chambers and then to the cas, based on the flimsiest, almost laughable evidence, and many of us thought that a potential two year ban would be sufficient to discourage targets from joining us.
Perhaps this is the subtext that might go some way to explaining that.
Remember, when it comes to us, there are certain parties who will stop at nothing to derail our plans.

Almost feel sorry for some Barca fans - why did he’s father release that statement if he is staying and going back to training on Monday? Almost.
