We won back to back titles etc ,vinny left at no notice ,we don't buy on the hoof ,nobody could see Eric being out for the season and we expected John to step up but he didn't, football is not played on paper as they say, thank God we passed on slabhead,i am beginning to think we chase certain players to get the rags to over stretch ha

We were never going to keep up the energy for a third season,we started off looking like we could but every var decision sucked the life out of them, you could see them thinking what is the point sometimes

Individual mistakes isn't something you can plan for,the best players mess up sometimes, all in all a mixture of things,be realistic, three high pressure intense years with pep was never going to happen, hopefully we have got our mojo back and var won't fuck us over as much ,ha of course it will !

As long as he gets far more right than wrong good, but as said , some decisions have been strange.

Not always sure about the quality of our scouting, especially looking for defenders, very hit and miss.
Having defended the club for not buying Maguire, I have to agree with your last point. We now seem to be looking at a choice between Koulibaly or Koulibaly if we buy an experienced CB. It bothers me how many suggest he may be past his peak, although that might well be bollox. The only other contenders appear to be relatively raw.

Our record with young central defenders is not good. Those we buy turn to shit. Those we move on seem to blossom elsewhere. You‘d think out of all the decent teams in the world there’d be some strong established candidates in their mid-twenties.

I am more than a little surprised that 2 weeks before the start of our season we still haven’t resolved the situation with Koulibaly or alternative. It’s a very obvious issue in our team since Kompany left.

After that the futures of Angelino, Garcia, Otamendi and Stones need to be resolved.

The addition of Ake and Torres address 2 issues we had last season being the lack of cover for Laporte and Torres effectively replaces Sané.

The issues we have left to resolve are a forward, left back and possibly midfield. There’s no way all these issues get resolved this window. Up front we have 2 strikers, one of whom is 31 and has had a number of injury problems. We need a forward but bar Messi we haven’t really been linked with anyone.

At left back our first choice has injury problems and our second choice is a midfielder, neither of whom had consistent seasons. So much so our 2nd choice right back finished the season as first choice left back. Maybe Ake will play there a bit but it looks like being a problem position again next season.

In midfield we’ve lost Silva, obviously we have the likes of Foden and Bernardo to step in, though Pep’s preference seems to be Gundogan. The downside of this is we have a pedestrian middle 2 without mobility in attack so we tend have very few people in the box for the inevitable stream of crosses. I think this will be a consistent issue this season. Fernandinho doesn’t have the legs to play DM so Rodri or Gundogan will play. The problem usually arises when both play. We were linked with Aouar last season and the start of summer but it doesn’t look as though we’re going to make a move.

Far too quiet considering our first game is two weeks away.

The whole transfer window has been a quiet one. (apart from Chelsea but they don’t count as they had last years transfer kitty burning a hole in their pocket)

Presume Covid has taken its toll, clubs don’t have the money, teams don’t want to sell, players worried about moving to new countries during the pandemic.

Suspect it will heat up going into October when teams know more about their money flow, a lot of clubs are nervous about empty stadiums and not knowing how long that will go on for.

are we any closer to koulibaly tolm?

No idea, that whole transfer bores me rigid. He's got better as the weeks have dragged by.

I also don't see any need for his agent to supposedly arrive in Manchester to broker it - it's in Italy where the issue has
been.

For the days of Baresi, Maldini, Nesta, a Costacurta?

I may be wrong but I don't think Liverpool spent big last summer either and pissed it.
They did and well done to them. Klopp has done extremely well for the outlay.

You’d probably agree they had decent luck with injuries, VAR, etc, though? Now I’m not saying it was all down to luck but, like us, they’ll find retaining the title extremely difficult.

Messi's dad still talking to us over the weekend. Make of this whatever you prefer!

Clearly looking at what to do next - we know that IF there was any deal we have al the finance worked out so it will be looking at what next to do - do we put a bid in (is that what Messi wants us to do ad who does this affect the finance package we then offer the player as it could be beyond the original expense that we have calculated).

They could be talking about a pre contract in January or putting a bid in in January - they could be talkign about continuing Messi not attending training and effectively going/staying on strike (is it reported anywhere that he has attended training this morning?)

Im guessing the final route which they want to avoid is the legal one _Messi himself has said he doesnt want to do that but will he be pushed into this by his own frustration - 20 years a a club and then treated like this - broken promises etc

Its boring this one - the Napoli guys is a difficult character - we should walk away and go for Pep's Plan B option of there is one and fuck Napoli off

Said this yesterday - why would hi agent fly allt he way to Manchester (esp at the moment) when all of this cna be done by calling/video conferancing - makes no sense whatsoever

If we can still get plan A we get plan A. We don't go to B because it's a bit difficult, unless we have to.

Barcelona's record of buying decent central defenders was also iffy under Txiki. I suspect the real truth is that they are quality defenders in the first instance, but the system Pep plays can expose even the best central defenders.

If we defended 15 metres closer to our own goal, Stones and Otamendi would look more like Baresi and Maldini!
