Fernandinho might have adapted his game if he'd stayed in midfield. The season at CB has probably done for him as a midfielder. Personally doubt his ability to adapt his game because I always saw him as a risk taker hence the tactical foul label.
If we had a new Ferdinando I don't think we'd need a new CB. But we'll be lucky to find one. I think we'll go to a more conventional formation now with 2 players doing the job that Fernandinho did and with less risk of those 2 players being caught forward of the ball. If Pep doesn't adapt to losing Fernandinho we'll suffer

I get what you are saying & it might be right, but is the tactical foul, not the thing which would have saved us on numerous occasions had Rodri, Gundogan etc had the awareness to apply it when they were in a similar situation ?

I think faster cbs will help sure up the midfield.

If it's a season of Garcias then we might as well cheer on Chelsea, as we won't be up there

There’s lot of valid arguments on here about positions we need (CB, LB etc) and names we should / should not get (Koulibaly, Aouar, even Messi and Thiago).

The biggest gap for me isn’t a position or one of those names, it’s leadership. I don’t know who could come in but we are crying out for a leader in our ranks, I don’t see one in our current squad at all apart. Kev and a few others can inspire with their brilliance but when we go one nil down, or are struggling away, or VAR stuffs us again, who can / who could we turn to?

totally agree, we got to many nice guys in the team . Like mourhino said in the spurs all or nothing , you’ve got to be cunts on the pitch and not nice guys , nice guys off it but cunts on the pitch is what we need!!

min a physical game or against a hot atmosphere a lot of players go hiding in our squad !

Think about the players who have gone on loan What’s up with our keepers ? We brought through hart and Schmiachal only for Hart to go from world class to pants at a very young age for a keeper Grimshaw looked a real talent is still on the books but has disappeared and has been overtaken by Muric who liked a real talent but had a nightmare in the championship and is now 21 and overtaken by Banzu ? Next thing is he will go on loan have an amazing season go on loan again and be rubbish why ?

We also had a succession of injuries last season which decimated the left side. Meanwhile, Liverpool had none and had a lot of favourable decisions. It would be bizarre for that to be replicated. Sane, talent though he is, had not produced for a season and a half and has been replaced by a genuine talent. Silva has gone which allows for the emergence of PF and BS in the centre and we have brought in Ake, a good defender. We could argue for more but not every buy that Liverpool make needs to be greeted with a metaphorical white flag and the flailing of limbs.
Liverpool actually had MORE injuries than us last season. The difference was in the duration/severity of those injuries and who it was that got them.

They had 20 injuries, we had 19.

Theirs totalled 587 days out, ours 749 days missed.

A larger percentage of our injuries affected ‘first choice’ starters. It’s subjective on who is first choice but I have 79% of our days missed due to injury being to first choice picks. That is however including Sane as first 11, which is actually debatable. It’s 50% without him. Liverpool’s percentage is around 55%.

Both of us suffered from injuries. Ours were just more concentrated to big hitters. Salah, Mané, Alisson, Fabinho, Keita, Henderson all got injuries though. Matip also, and he was first choice partner for VVD in the beginning, then Gomez ousted him.

For us, big hitters such as Laporte, Sane, Aguero, Sterling, KDB, Rodri, Ederson, Mendy all had injuries of varying severities.
