I would never have accepted that. He can still play well in cups so it’s worth losing the 10m. If the fixed fee was 18, would have been plain stupid to turn down.

I'm not sure you know. They can go to him now and say "this is what they think you're worth, whereas we kept playing you in our first team. Our contract offer stands." Who knows what promises were made to him. I wouldn't be that surprised if he extends for City.

I agree. 1 year is a long time and things can happen. Or maybe not according to the tweet above.

On a side note...

Just grabbed half an hour of Transfer Deadline Day on SSN. Not really bothered with it for a few years for the reasons I’m about to outline. I recall not many years ago I would book the day off work to watch as Manchester City pursued 2 or 3 signings to their conclusion .... or not. I also remember United not signing anybody and their fans and occasional guest pundit would quip that “big clubs don’t do business on transfer deadline day!” Fast forward to 2020 as they make loan deals and buy cheap acquisitions off the back of another 1-6 drubbing.

Made me smile.

We have known this for a while, we don't care if he does go, however, since he is under contract, we will use him as we wish. Up to him to perform or not in the games he does feature in, if he's shit or has bad attitude it's only a bad look for him.

Deadline Day isn’t the same anymore. Remember that year we were desperate for a Striker, missed out on Mido and then failed with a late loan move for Andy O’Brien from Newcastle who didn’t want the move.

Both United and Barcelona are run incredibly bad. Clowns aree in charge at Barcelona and United don't even know what a sporting director is for. Laughable. Love it.

Glad this fucking window is over. That Koulibaly saga was painful from start to finish.

Cheers.

Well, that's half worked out I'd say. Could be a concern once Pep goes tho, but we'll have to just wait and see.

£15m for a player that has 9 months left on his contract and is currently our 5th choice CB is a very acceptable offer.

Thiago went for £20m to Liverpool in similar circumstances for goodness sake.

As I've said before the problem is the way they negotiated. They got him to say publicly that he wouldn't sign a contract then bid well below our asking price. That was calculated and coordinated.

If you accept the low bid in those circumstances you signal to the rest of the market that it is worthwhile to tap up City players and get them to agitate publicly, because then you get a big discount. Next season you might have to take a €30m discount on a top player in similar circumstances.

If you refuse to budge, you send the message that fair dealing is the most rational way to negotiate with City.

If you would accept that pittance offer after what they did you would be very foolish.

Would love to know the reasoning behind this one. I can only imagine Pep must really rate him and he could be used if a cb injury crisis occurred in which case god help us.

We paid £21m for Torres and value Garcia similarly due to their similar profile. Not sure how £6m short of our valuation is ‘very acceptable’ or I’m sure Valencia would have accepted £15m for Torres.

It's not £15m though is it, it's €10m plus hypothetical add ons, potentially ridiculous ones like "if he wins the European Cup in the next 3 seasons" and "if he plays 500 games".

If you ran a business you'd be bankrupt.

Half is right. 50-50. Two legendary seasons, two fucking embarrassments where we didn't even challenge. You can’t give him credit for the good but still give him a free pass for the bad. Though the usual suspects will be along in a minute calling him a ‘visionary’
