I understand where you're coming from. I don't think he's shoulders above anyone else (Bernardo or Foden for example who he is closest in style to) but given we don't have a natural false 9 I think he would be a big improvement. He's perfect for that role in our team IMO. I'd actually argue he'd fit better into our current setup (which of course can change and Pep will change) than Haaland. Doesn't mean he's a better player than Haaland mind.
I don’t believe we would spend what Atletico would want for Felix just to another option for false 9. Last summer (During the pandemic) we inquired them about Jose Gimenez, a CB Pep likes and wanted, and they set the price at 120M and wouldn’t go below that. Gimenez is very injury prone and has again missed games this season due to injury. They wouldn’t let the “star” leave now when he in theory would be undervalued.
I also think people completely misread Pep’s ideas for the squad. Stuff like “Pep loves false 9’s”, “Pep would play 11 midfielders if he could”, what one silly posted who has me on Ignore (and it’s mutual) says about players’ heights etc. You need only to look at his history and read about him to know that stuff is totally insane. But as a fan, I like to see people make stuff about him, proving how fascinating a character he is

Sorry I don’t actually understand your point? Are you referring to Giménez to highlight how much money Atleti like for their players? If so I don’t think you can compare Giménez and Felix like for like. Giménez was a pivotal first teamer when we approached (he’s actually slipped down the pecking order this season but probably linked to his injuries) and they wouldn’t want to sell. Atleti didn’t want to sell Felix last season because he was their record signing. However since then there’s been a global pandemic and Felix still hasn’t established himself as a first teamer. Given those two facts I think Atleti would be much more likely to sell and at a reasonable price.

How am I misreading pep’s intentions for the squad when I’ve watched us play the false 9 system regularly for the last 6+ months? I’m not saying pep won’t change that or approach next season with a different formation/tactics. Again not sure what you’re point is?

Gimenez has been injury prone for longer than this or last season. I don’t disagree he is pivotal to their team, but so is Felix, he is crucial part of their brand and at 21, the fact he didn’t have a consistent season doesn’t mean they are ready to let him go and give up on what they gambled on. I would say Simeone himself still isn’t ready to let him go, let alone for a price that wouldn’t be earth-shattering. And there was a pandemic last summer already

I wasn’t talking about you with my comment necessarily, just something that gets mentioned around here every now and then, craziness such as how we would risk not having a top striker next season because “we could just use false 9’s!” We still play strikers constantly this season even though one can’t be reliable because of form and one can’t be reliable because of fitness. Pep doesn’t even need to “change” it for next season when we have a main striker again. Again, it wasn’t a personal attack and I apologize if it came out like that

I don't know. The market conditions are not helpful.

Perhaps Jesus might ask himself the question, but he also isn't going to allow himself to be sent just anywhere, certainly not to Dortmund.

Pep loves the guy to bits and, even though he is a frustration at times, he's only ever moving to a top three team in Spain or Italy if he ever does move on.

That's more indicative of his overall quality.

If it were my decision, Jesus will be with us for many more years. He is a a brilliant role model and ambassador for both City and Brazil.

More importantly, he's nowhere near his peak and we have people on here talking about bringing Kel back?

Gabby is ten times the player.
When he isn't offside;)

No worries I didn't take it as a personal attack, your point just wasn't clear. Basically you think we'll shift back away from a false 9 setup and thus not look to sign a player like Felix. You might be right. I just think Felix will be an option in Pep's mind. Whether we can prise him out of Atleti who knows, but I suspect he will be easier to sign now than last summer if we did move for him.

I don't see it with Felix, personally.

I could see him coming in if one of our other forwards moves on, otherwise, I'm not sure what he would bring or where he would slot in.

Ultimately, we need a finisher, a scorer. With numbers that back it and a great conversion rate. I know we score plenty as a team. We miss plenty too. Felix just doesn't have the numbers. He has talent and skill, absolutely. But the price it would take to land him is as high as if he had both.
