It's quiet thread 6 - all new all dancing!

no one answered my question earlier in the thread about Henderson so I will re-post it hoping someone can inform me. Since tolmie started a thread about him a month or so ago, last week was the first Sunderland game I was able to watch (vs Spurs) and he did not play well at all:

is Henderson similar to Michael Johnson in terms of play? Is he box-to-box? Attacking? Wiki says attacking but only 1 goal to his credit (against us)

I can't see him getting regular playing time here. Lot of competition for that midfield if it were he, AJ, NDJ, Milner, Yaya, Barry, Silva, and by January maybe even MJ.

He's started all 12 league games according to my stats. No goals this year.

Was first rumoured to be in line for a senior cap this time last year. Instead he served his time in the u-21's. He was left out of the squad announced today; it's expected that he will feature in Capello's 'experimental' squad, due to be announced after this weekend's games. Same goes for Phil Jones and Andy Carroll.

This might be of interest; the u21 game vs Romania. Henderson scored and took the man of the match award;

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.thefa.com/video/England/Mens-Under-21s/20010-11/England-2-1-Romania" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.thefa.com/video/England/Mens ... -1-Romania</a>

His style is similar to MJ, which does put some doubt in my mind over MJ's future.... but I think this lad has a bit more pace, he can play out on the right of a four, no problem.

He's got a reputation as a smart, technically accomplished midfield player. I wouldn't worry about him starting games. We bemoan the lack of pace in the trio, this kid might offer something a bit different. What with the FA cup, and the Europa, there will be plenty of chances in the second half of the season.

Always interesting to hear what Tolmie has to say.

Any news on Gai Assulin?

For me we need a creative midfielder with energy and a a goal scoring centre forward. Bastian Schweinsteiger & Edin Dzeko would suit me just fine but life is not always like that, is it?

could develop into a great player.. cracking goal in that vid

Tolmie, are we on the right track?

Speaking to an ardent Mackem who insists Henderson is good but very overrated/hyped, I trust his judgement. I'd wait until we see the outcome of MJ's rehabilitation before going in for him.

I live up in the NE and the chatter is about it being difficult to convince them to sell.

A fee well, well over AJ's from Boro would be the order of the day.

Don't underestimate a certain Mr Marwoods local links mind you as he is a Seaham boy I think

With our interest his price has gone into the stratosphere a la Milner, Lescott etc.
If just the Rags and maybe Arsenal were in for him I'm sure "only" about £12m would be on the table but the competition plus liberal doses of hype changes that.
Haven't seen too much of him myself but he seems to play the type of role that doesn't stand out, a link-up player if you like and given our problems in getting good service into our front men a player like him would be an asset.
Whether he is the man for the job remains to be seen.
I have an open mind about it but I do trust Marwood's judgement.

Enigma machine was a code breaker used in the war - sounds like andy Carroll to me (barcodes etc)
