It's Very Early Days, But...

He was Absolutely brilliant...as a veteran centre mid for us
Would have loved to have had Ali in his early 20s at Maine Road.
So skilful,so dynamic,so tough...as a veteran..God knows how good he would have been under a manager like Keegan in his younger days. The mind boggles.
What was it The Goat said about Ali B's passing vision ? " He knows where I'm going before I know myself " :-)

Cherki's performance vs Sunderland was excellent but I want to see more of the same. I know now that Cherki has great ability on the ball but I want to see him consistently running games.

It's only my opinion, but to run the game through Cherki would be a mistake. Can't rely on one creative outlet.

This is why I'm hoping for that double playmaking problem in the team.

Playing consistently to a high standard then.

The Sunderland game was a big step for Cherki because he strongly influenced the game but that was perhaps the first time he has done so. I want to see him do it again. He did work well with Foden.

Of course, the duo were older and the PL more savvy (still had little breakthroughs and injury didn't help re-creating the relationship), but I think you're still missing my point.
The players play in different roles, and it was a very short live PL partnership, likely to be about 20 games they started. It was Keegan trying to show he could play with two playmakers and he soon gave up on that idea.

Silva and KDB were the closest to this playing as 8's, but Foden mainly plays as a forward.

Foe was better than B&B and the main midfielder in that one PL season.

Keegan gave up trying to play with two playmakers, and AS was brought in as a second striker instead.

With respect.....It's not really about what you want .
It's about what Pep wants. Both Foden and Cherki have unlimited skills ..but they ,like every other player under Pep are under strict guidelines to play for the team. Having one man ' run' the game isn't really a Pep thing.imo.
As long as they both carry out Peps instructions, that's good enough for me.
In an open game of football you may get a skilled midfielder running the show at any team.
Ie Grealish at Villa.....But our mentality lends itself to swift passing movements, where every player plays his part, the only way to break down the often ultra defensive rearguards we face.
Both Foden and Cherki will play their part this season, but both are under orders...

Indeed.
I used to think of Benarbia as " The Wizard" ..(Black Sabbath) ,such were his magical skills.

"Everyone's happy, when the Wizard walks by
Spreading his magic
All the people..give a happy sigh
Left all the people..feeling so fine
Spreading his magic"

That's how I remember watching the great Ali Benarbia for City.
Brilliant player.

I don't necessarily disagree with what you said. However Keegan didn't have the energetic early 20's versions of B&B in his team. We've seen PSG absolutely destroy teams in the last few months using youth in the team.

Seeing that, thinking about Eyal B and Ali B and thinking of what's possible for Foden and Cherki has me dreaming.

Maybe that's what it'll remain; a dream but I have a right to dream it for my City!!
