Is she a man?NZ prime Minister.
Complete opposite to Margaret Thatcher.....
The comparisons between the two countries are valid, albeit with some caveats. They may well have a smaller population but that population is still concentrated in major cities. There is no doubt that they have handled the pandemic more decisively and more succesfully than we have.
Perhaps a fairer comparison is with Japan. The UK is about 64% the size of Japan with twice the population. I haven't really followed their response but the figures I've found suggest a much smaller death rate amongst a much older population.

Still, this is the Jacinda Ardern thread; NZ are lucky to have her, we've got a fool in charge and a bunch of fools supporting him.
A better comparison would be Ireland. Similar population and an island. The comparisons are ridiculous and I don’t say that to absolve anyone over here of anything.
When you say major cities Stockport would be the 3rd largest in their country.
Their largest is on a different island to their 2nd largest and they’d have 1 in our top 10.
Add to that London to Birmingham is a relatively short train journey away and our two largest population centres, respectively 8 times and 2 times larger than their biggest city.
England has 11 times more people than New Zealand with literally half the land mass.
People are welcome to say how good she’s been, she’s clearly a decent person but to compare is silly.

343 deaths per million compared to 4 in NZ.
To be fair we are more than capable of fucking things up ourselves.I understand but Ireland has Britain next door and shares a border with the UK, which could have impacted them.
She’s obviously done a decent job and she seems far too sensible to be a leader but if I had to pick any western country to lead in a pandemic, I’m picking New Zealand.
That’s quite a difference though.
We did.To be fair we are more than capable of fucking things up ourselves.
...which is why we needed proper leadership; a serious leader with gravitas who the vast majority of the population could respect. Instead we got fucking Johnson. We did.
The comparisons between size/population/cities isn’t quite transferable, but the biggest single factor that helped NZ be better than over the UK response was locking down internally and across borders very quickly. We didn’t, we pfaffed, we paid the price.
With regards to other nations, island (like) nations, Japan, South Korea , Taiwan - they’ve had many other viruses (mers, sars, swine flu etc), they know that you need to lockdown quickly and how to do it effectively. and they also generally have a population that thinks about the country as a whole rather than selfishly.

First off he was democratically elected by 42.4% of the voters. No problem with that; it’s how our system works but it’s not a majority. There’s no suggestion he’s inherited anything, he’s bullshitted his way to the top job aided and abetted by an appallingly weak opposition with an even more unelectable leader. You make it sound like he’s inherited a throne, he was democratically elected by a majority.

Secondly, the 42.4% who voted Tory were voting for a buffoon and a liar to be PM, so it’s absolutely no surprise that when a real crisis happens that needs proper leadership and judgment, what we get is a complete fuck up.

A majority government refers to one or multiple governing parties that hold an absolute majority of seats in legislature. This is as opposed to a minority government, where the largest party in a legislature only has a plurality of seats.
There is a difference between being elected by a majority and having a majority government. My post is nothing to do with his character, I’ve got a long list of my own complaints but he was elected by a majority, in very surprised you don’t know what that means when referring to our parliament.

I don't get this attack on Johnson. People are the problem. You can make any law you want but if the people wont follow it then it is useless.
NZ locked down but it was the people who respected it. They haven't had 2,000 turn up to a rave where one died, another 3 were stabbed and a woman raped.

Yep, people are the problem, but that is why we need an inspirational leader. The response to a clown in charge will not be the same as the response to someone most people respect. Every single country has a significant proportion of idiots. The best leaders find a way of getting most of them onside. We’ve got Johnson.I don't get this attack on Johnson. People are the problem.
