The quality is bad the first 35 seconds, then it's HD:

Really enjoyed that second one. Far from perfect but he did a lot right in that. Some lovely possession football and some really nice passes. Raw still, clearly, but he's a kid and that's understandable, but there's a really nice positive attitude to his game and I really like the fact that he's not hiding when his team needs someone to step up. He's a no 10 but he's dropped deep plenty of times there to start things. Good sense of responsibility. Some of the one touch stuff is excellent too.

I don't know if he'll make it at City's level, but it's fantastic to see one of our young lads excelling against a very good European side, in a struggling team in a foreign country too, when he'd never played first team football at all only a few months ago. He'll be a professional footballer at very least and he'll reach a good standard too while representing his country for years, and that's only a positive for him and City.

Cracking compilation video, and like the above post states,he clearly enjoys, and goes looking for.....the responsibility of the ball. He's a bit of a midfield general, having a great engine and decent defensive skills but is also always looking for the killer pass.....it doesn't always come off but it seems he has the confidence not to let it affect him.If I had to draw comparisons, both for style and physique,i'd say he looks a slightly more defensive version of Wilshere.

His attitude appears superb and he obviously has ability that first team football is further developing,i wouldn't like to guess how far that could take him but its fantastic to witness and I look forward to more.Well done Jack,a credit to our academy.

Looking good for him. A run like this pretty much guarantees him a chance at a decent club. Hopefully he can make a push for our first team at some point in the future but I think he is doing enough now to ensure a good career as a pro and that is great to see. Another success for the academy in the making.

I honestly dont think he will make it at City.
The positive being he will make it as a very good pro at a Europa League level team be it in the UK or in Europe.
I think that him not making it at City is not a failure of him, the club and the youth system but securing work to have a good level to play at is a success.
This should be stressed to the kids in the current system.

I think that he'll have a decent career at a PL team. Maybe not us but if Delph can get a squad place with us then who knows?

See him in similar role and having similar ability as Darren Fletcher (the ex Rag, not the BT Commentator).

Lol, I'd never think these are actually different people if it wasn't to your post.

Making it as a first team regular will be a privilege only a microscopic few will taste,we're talking potential mega stars imo.......the standard is so high that it will be no slant on any that are educated here ......the vast majority will develop into very good players that will earn us a few quid and go on to successful careers elsewhere.I don't think anyone is under any illusion otherwise.

Bit harsh that.

From admitedly what small amounts I've seen I do not believe he'll make it if we consider that being an important member of the starting eleven, however as someone who can give good performances against weaker sides and 'put a shift in' for a couple years before selling him on for decent profit I think there's a few places in our squad for such players, that might be Byrne. Most top teams have a couple of those sorts of players who don't have the talent to be a top dog but can still be valuable to the club in a specific way before moving on, pocketing us some cash and making way for the next kid.

It can help in the dressing room (one of us, trying hard as their not 'established' and keeping the senior pro's on their toes) and save us having to spend stupid cash on subpar players then feeling we need to justify their pricetag.

I think a success for Byrne would be this sort of role for us, and thats nothing to be ashamed of.

Then again look at any post about Harry Kane from a couple years back and you realise just how odd and unexpected a youngsters rise can be.

The main thing for me regarding Byrne is that, as a creative player, he is very good & clever but doesn't appear a potential 'genius' nor does he score loads of goals or have pace, physicality etc, so it's not obvious how he could play as a first choice for City in that role.

So then if we look at other positions, well he's not a wide player so we're looking at the Ferns or Yaya's area. Now comes the problem, purely because he's a boderline midget. A few seasons ago when he first came through, he would sit deep, play triangles with the defenders etc then build attacks, & sometimes finish it off. Brilliant imo, eyes in the back of his head, cool as a cucumber on the ball & gets stuck in. But defensively as good as the Ferns or even Yaya or Kean Bryan for that matter ? No chance.

But then, is Gundogan ? And how many assists/goals does he get ?

I think Byrne could easily have played for City from the bench for some time, maybe even becoming an occasional starter & done a decent job whilst the top players rested, as possibly could Evans, Lopes, Maffeo, Bryan, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, loads of them.

The question is which ones just do that & pass through or which ones make a longer term job for themselves. Byrne can probably 'fill in' as you say, & then move on, & that is success for the academy. But it's just possible he could go up a level too or find a specific role.

Whatever, I'll trust the next manager to decide on that, wheras imo the current one hasn't got a fucking clue either way, so he's probably better off where he is.

In what world is he a "borderline midget"? He's about 5 foot 8 or 9 isn't he? About Delph/Fernandinho sized

I'd definitely say he's small. Not a midget, but not the size of a bustling midfielder. Scholes size really. And it's probably Scholes that he has to emulate stylistically in many ways to give himself a chance at the highest of levels.

If the internet is correct and he is 1.75m then that's nearly 3 inches taller than Scholes by my reckoning. He's the same height as plenty of bustling midfielders, like Fernandinho, Matuidi, Naingolan or Milner. I think it's more his lack of bustling pace and strength that will stop him being that sort of player than any height issue (although he could easily get stronger as he gets older). I've always thought he'd end up being a deep lying possession type player anyway to be honest, who keeps things ticking over and spraying passes about. Like a not shit Carrick

Having watched him play, he isn't that tall. No way he's the height of Fernandinho IMO. Think that stat is generous.

To be fair, look at the size of him next to Navas, not sure he's even 5 foot ;)

Height really isn't as important as the way you put yourself about. Navas is short, but he's very good in the air, Sterling is tiny, but he's strong enough and has the attitude to shove players much bigger off the ball.

In the modern game, with today's refereeing, physicality is less important. You want to have some tall lads at the back because set pieces will be an issue, but for a central midfielder there's no problem with being small.
