If you like JD then try this cocktail
Lynchberg Lemonade:
1 measure of JD
1 measure of Cointreu
1 measure of Bitters
Top up with Lemonade and add a slice of Lime.
You dont get many JD cocktails but this one is gorgeous and is now my favourite one!!

Ignore above post mate....Scotch (or Irish) malts are great, agreed, but a totally different tipple entirely and as such don't deserve comparison...
As for your op, it depends how you drink it? If you desecrate it with ANYTHING other than a little ice (And certainly no 'cocktail' shite, lol) then just stick with regular JD's....but the specials DO taste different.....usually smoother too....
Or could try some of the alternatives out there like Maker's Mark, Old Grandad, Bulliet, or Knob Creek.
A cost effective way of trying them without splashing out on an expensive bottle, is to get to the Briton's Protection pub (behind Bridgewater Hall) where they have a huge range of bourbons (and single malts too)

I like my scotch. But I'll put Pappy Van Winkle 15 or 20 yr bourbon up against the best scotch every day.

When I have the odd short I go for JD and Coke. Dont normally mix whiskey but jsut for JD is the only one I mix the rest I would have a bit of ice in it instead. Out of the Irish whiskeys the best I tasted was Bushmills lovely it was. Then the likes of Paddy , Tullamore Dew or Jameson go down a right treat. Good for a nightcap when dieing with the flu aswell.
I got myself a bottle of this from duty free a couple of years ago, i think i paid around £30-£35 for it. It was nice but i preferred the original JD. Although im not much of a whiskey/bourbon connoisseur i only really drink JD, so those who do like their whiskey/bourbon might be able to appreciate the quality of silver select more than i did. It does come in a nice bottle though which has the date and barrel number printed on it and is worth keeping.

I switched from Jameson to Redbreast - Definitely worth trying. But not a mixing whiskey. JD is perfect for mixing with coke. I like Makers Mark in mixed bourbon drinks like a Manhattan.
