In terms of regimes they’re certainly in the bottom 5 along with regimes led by other despots admired by Trump like Russia, North Korea and the Philippines.
There are two big problems though. If the regime became more liberal, the country would become an anti-western theocracy in a heartbeat which would threaten oil supplies and the world economy. The second problem is that they have shit loads of money which they spend in western countries keeping thousands employed. So whatever they do, the major powers in the west may huff and puff but ultimately they’ll get away with it.

I thought that they were moving closer to Saudi with regards to how erdogan is turning turkey into a non secular dictatorship.
Can anyone explain what advantage they’d gain by their belligerence towards the Saudis?

Can’t see that mate. The Iranians are allied with Russia, Assad and the Kurds.(as far as I’m aware)
 
Some really unpleasant countries in this world. The Saudis knocking off critics in their own consulate, the Russians recklessly using banned chemical weapons in other nation states and the Chinese kidnapping the head of Interpol. And that's before we get to the likes of Assads Syria.
