James Lawton's Forever Boys

He regularly slated us post-takeover in his column in the Indy, and even I, though I've generally been an admirer of his, thought he often came across as a pompous bore. However, he was the ghost-writer of Malcolm Allison's autobiography 'Colours of my Life' in 1975 and of Mal's column in the Daily Express for many years, including most of the period at City covered by this book. I imagine it will be sympathetically done and I agree that his style should suit book form. Looking forward to it very much.

For those that know this guys writing style. What can we expect? will this book tell me anything that I didn't already know about this period in City's history? Let's be honest it's been well covered elsewhere. I'll probably buy it regardless.

I actually bumped into Lawton during the Barbados Test Match in 1990 on the same day that City won 2-1 at Villa Park. Alec Stewart spotted my City shirt, and tried to give me some abuse, but Lawton shouted "Up the Blues" and gave me the thumbs-up.

Incidentally, this was the same Test Match, when Lawton accused Viv Richards of cheating, and you just don't do that in the West Indies.
During the next Test Match in Antigua, Richards attacked Lawton in the Press Box.

Different times, but just like David Conn and Colin Schindler, Lawton always had City at heart.
