James Milner

Great performance from Jimmy again , when new contacts were handed out this summer he should got his before the very disappointing Frenchmen Nasri .

Your forgetting jimmy didn't want to sign the contract city have been asking him to sign all summer. Played well today as he usually does when he's asked to do a job, deserves to stay in the side and hopefully he puts pen to paper.

I think if Pellergrini plays him a bit more .
He will put pen to paper .

Brilliant display in 4 positions today. Should of got MOTM for me. What Milner offers us on the right wing isn't as obvious as what Navas offers but for me Milner would be first choice on that right midfield. He's a very intelligent player off the ball. He constantly makes the runs into space for the likes of Silva to thrive off and he knows when to make dummy runs to open up the space for others. And despite his lack of pace compared to navas, he takes more people on than Navas does. There was a moment in the first half where he just ran azpilicueta, i think he got us a corner from it in the end, but he had nothing open for him, was 1 v1 with his man so just had a go at him. navas or nasri in that situation would no doubt have turned back to zabba/kompany a retained possession ultimately going nowhere.

I don't get this "he might not be as technically gifted as Nasri, but...." garbage.

He might not look as natural/arrogant with his game, but he is technically better at being in the correct position, making the correct runs, picking the correct pass, taking the ball past a man, intercepting, tackling, harrying and generally winning possession back. They are similar in shooting ability, and I have no idea re heading ability...

At the end of day, he is head and shoulders more effective and important for and to the team, in my opinion. If that doesn't make him technically better than Nasri, then I have no idea what would.

To beat Vinnie to MOTM today required some fooking performance, hats off to him!

brilliant post, spot on

Jimmy's stats for todays game are just bloody unreal:
- 97% pass completion,
- 104 touches
- 4 successful dribbles,
- 6 tackles,
- 1 assist.

And he played as right midfield, left midfield, right back and left back.
Astonishing.

I though Milner was brilliant today. He was one of the best performers on the pitch, which is some achievement considering some of the players out there today. Worked his socks off all game & was all over the pitch. Great work to set up the goal, he was great going forward & defended well too. Just an awesome performance all round.

Absolutely. Great post.

This was not the old James Milner. This hopefully is the new James Milner.Everything he did today was superb and very unlucky not to get the MOTM award.
He must have covered more grass than Chelseas full midfield today.
Well done Jimmy. Now keep it going for the rest of the season and don`t give MP an opportunity to drop you. After today you deserve a long run in the team.

Incredible performance. Not only an asset to the squad but now one of the starting eleven considering how little nasri has offered us for so long. To say he is reliable is almost an insult. Offers us so much more.

He got the official one mate, and rightly so. Put in one hell of a shift.

Great performance

How many positions did he end up playing in one single game?

If he left I will be sad, he is a great player to have and with regular games he will only improve.

Well played Jimmy

I made it four.

Right midfield first half. Central midfield when Jesus came on. Right back briefly after Zaba's second yellow and left back after Frank's introduction.

My MotM, but it was a close-run thing between him and the Mangler.

Jimmy was outstanding in every position he played and proved why he is loved by most City supporters. He gives his all for every minute of every game he plays. A true professional, who brings so much to our squad. With performances like he's given recently, it would be foolish of Pellegrini not to give him more game time.

I just hope he signs that new contract.

I thought he also played left wing back for a while, when we had three at the back up until our goal.

Ha and rightly so then PMS.

So far so good for Milner. I honestly think he is going to be showing his worth more and more look brilliant today in the midfield. Put it this way Milner should be the first name on the teamsheet for the weekend game. I would even rest him up for the midweek game as he is just starting to show MP his real worth in the midfield. I am guessing Milner was a number of players who were told to go out there and do a Kolarov and be rewarded with a new long term contract I would even put Joe Hart in the same boat and both players have started the season well and if they continue both should be rewarded with new deals.
