From my recollection, Mulhearn came in when Dowd had a short-term injury and kept his place. Mulhearn was not brilliant but made no real mistakes. This continued for the start of the next season until he was blamed for the defeat at Fenerbahce.Harry was a bit short by gk standards but he had a fantastic leap. I always felt he was unlucky to miss most of our championship season due to injury. He was back as no.1 the following year but a certain Mr. Corrigan was looming.
Dowd came back in and Mulhearn’s time was numbered. Dowd did get an FA Cup winners medal. His lack of height eventually told and Corrigan’s time was coming.
