Was he really though? Kompany was criticised for not being pragmatic enough to change his progress style to suit a promoted team

Last season in the Championship they were very much defense first.

Under Kompany, Burnley played a more expansive game like he would be doing at our place and he was dropped after 6 months or so.

He will likely have improved since then no doubt, but going from an organised defensive unit in the second division to an all out attack open expansive game at City where every goal conceded could be the difference between winning the league or CL is a huge step up.

Expansive game is a nice way of putting it. Burnley didn’t defend at all, played crazy high lines and in general were atrocious. We are not as open as that and we obviously have much better defenders.

I'm warming to the idea.
He's already a better shotstopper than Ederson and the club obviously feel he has the potential to be a ballplayer otherwise we wouldn't be interested. The fact Newcastle want him as well is also telling.
As a replacement for Ortega, it's an absolute no brainer. Club trained and quality. But it relies on him being willing to come in as second choice. I'd be less convinced about him replacing Ederson as number 1. If we're wanting a new number 1, we should be looking at the best keepers in the world.

Anyone been watching him at Burnley and Bolton and have an informed opinion?

Seems a crazy gamble to lose Ederson and bring in a very inexperienced replacement that’s been playing at a far lower level.

£40m will make Trafford the 5th most expensive gk in history. He is not in the top 50 gks in Europe.

Sums up our transfer strategy in the past 3 seasons. Building a Europa League quality team

The club is already looking to buy him for less. Maybe like 25. maybe a switch with Ortega who knows.

Presumably why there's a negotiation happening rather than us just triggering the clause. Strange that they'd agree to the buy back clause at such a huge level in the first place.

From a Burnley ST holder…

Honestly mate he’s world class shot stopper but flaps, I don’t see city standard, he’s a bit of a strange character aswell. Hopefully we can get stupid money, I’d let him go to the mags.
