A bit knee-jerk.

I'm sorry, I don't think Trafford is as good as Ederson. There, so what.

I LIKE that he is club trained, seemingly wants to come back, and the promise he has for the future or long term, IF, he develops to what people think is his potential.

But does he walk in and make our first team better if he replaces Ederson? Does he Fuck!

That's ok to say and or think. Doesn't mean I don't want the move to happen, doesn't mean I think the club are daft, doesn't mean I think Trafford is shit or unwelcome.

I don't think Ederson has turned to shit, I don't think he is incapable of playing to a high level that's higher than most keepers, even if his 'heart is not in it' (which I don't buy is the case). People judge football on social media headlines these days rather than what they see on the pitch. Ederson is still a great keeper and ideal for how we play.

If he wants to leave, and the club help enable that, all the best to him and thanks for his (big) part on the 17, 18 or however many trophies. But, Traford is not the same level to replace him, at least not now, and that's an ok opinion. Neither is Ortega, should he stay btw.

More than happy to be proven wrong.
The problem that we face with replacing most of our players from the last few years is WHO is at the level that we could buy that would come in and make our team better, we have to remember that our worst team in a decade (apparently) finished third in the pl, made the knockout stages of the cl and reached a cup final, our absurdly high standards has made it so much harder.

If Gala make an offer of £5m and we can bring in Trafford should we accept and do a deal for Trafford with Burnley?

I find this very difficult to answer because I have no means of knowing how good Trafford is. I assume City know because we must have been tracking the player. I am not that keen on keeping Ederson if he's leaving anyway in 12 months.
In my opinion, no we shouldn't. And I don't think we will either, I think we will get at least double that for him. Even then I think it is too low, but get how the club deal with sales and long term players that way, sometimes.

Would Burnley let Trafford go to us for 5m just because he wants to come here? If we were buying Ederson as he is, from another top club, would we get him for 5m? Not a chance.

But I think people have taken the reported lowball figures for granted too quickly, and I don't think there is much truth to them. Happy to see how it plays out.

@Coatigan is correct, and so are you, @mancboy .
We are replacing some of the greatest players to have ever played in the PL and there are zero replacements that will step in at their level.
We are buying younger, cheaper players, but who have the potential to reach those levels and beyond. It is true that James Trafford is not currently at peak Ederson level, but neither is Eddie!

Hold on a minute im not having that are you new to this forum you know fine well that two people cant have somewhat contrasting opinions and both be right and be okay with it, thats not what the internet is about at all ;)

Yeah, god forbid somebody has a less than 100% overwhelmingly glowing opinion of somebody we are linked with. We should be taking a leaf out of the cultists dippers book and proclaiming any player linked to us to be the best player in the world in their position.
Or just give them a chance before writing them off before they’ve even played a game for us.

Although I don't think they are that contrasting. More just additional sides to a take.

I agree btw, and I haven't really been arguing we should be signing this keeper or that, over Trafford.

Diogo Costa perhaps is a bit more 'tested', as a keeper. Doesn't mean he is better, and I certainly don't know enough to claim that.

But that doesn't change my opinion that we would go into the season weaker, in that position if Trafford replaced Ederson. But I also think that our issue last season wasn't Ederson alone, and with the defence and midfield improving, may be enough to balance out any GK drop-off, till Trafford or anyone else comes into their own. Imo.

I think the issue is we have become used to having these top class players and forgotten that they werent those players when they came to us but developed into those players. I think the last genuine world superstar we signed was maybe haaland. All the world class superstars we have had werent that when they arrived, kdb had a very good season in germany but was apparently overpriced and overrated when he came here, same for silva, aguero had a good season with atleti and rodri wasnt who he has become when he arrived. The press has poisoned a lot of peoples minds that we go out and splash huge sums of money on top class player after top class player but the reality is we buy very good players on the verge of becoming absolute superstars and then they spend their prime years with us, now that doesnt always work out i grant you, but the reality is you only have to look at our sustained success to see that more often than not it does work.

True, although in this case, pre-City Ederson was imo a lot better than pre-City Trafford. And yes I did rate him at the time, and he fit in pretty quickly.

Spot on, but it is more than the back four. They have looked vulnerable because we didn't press aggressively from the front and lacked the physicality in midfield. Once that unit re-establishes that, the defence will look as safe as houses again, IMO.
Rodders is the key to not being pressed, he’s the outlet ball. If he’s fit and back to his best it won’t be a problem.

He's a big part of it, but all the back 4 and the keeper need to comfortable with it, receiving and laying it off quickly, the keeper also needs to be able to read it so he isn't passing to the marked player which often is Rodri.

I hope he hasn’t been reading what some of his so called new supporters think about his signing for us on here, because if he has he should say fuck you and go and sign for Newcastle and make and watch you eat your own words. It fucking baffles me how quick people are to write other people off so quickly.
Mate, I have no idea how some people on here can watch so much football (apparently) and be experts in all players that play in all leagues around the world.. They need to get a life outside of City IMO. There is no way most of the "experts" on here have watched half the players they seem to have views on. As for Trafford, we had him and he was highly valued in the academy. He has had his ups and downs whilst he has been at Burnley but has been with England and he know how we want to play. He is homegrown and not that much money in today's market, if we are to lose Eddie I would want this lad as a replacement to at least compete with Ortega.

I hope so. Pep has mentioned things become stale after a while and need refreshing.

These guys going are part of not just our history but english football history but time is time and they have won everything and its time to go again with younger players. I think Viana wants to build his Man City as well so it may take another season top really bed in but next season could be fun!

Viana isn’t building City just for Pep’s next 2 years, he’s building a City team far beyond that, and I suppose part of that is always potentially going to create an issue between the two of them, is what it is.
