I believe Newcastle and Burnley where 5 mil apart so you’d think it would get done eventually.

I just don’t see us spending close to £90 mil on two goalkeepers who want to be no 1. It wouldn’t make any sense.

We know viana likes to rapidly move on to other targets (just ask mgw and cherki) if he sees a market opportunity.

Im intrigued to see this play out. Perhaps we have allowed Newcastle a run at Trafford if it means we can get a deal done for livramento? Who knows! Should be an intriguing week
What if.. Newcastle sign Trafford, we sign Costa to replace Ederson, Burnley sign Ortega to replace Trafford. Who comes in as our no.2? Ooooh!

I hope as a City fan - James Trafford doesn’t read this thread….( he might need therapy). Personally I think it’s a bit of a gamble but I’m prepared to back the club’s judgement- I’m not sure I’m equipped to scout a keeper anyway. If Trafford starts as our number 1 then I’ll be 100 per cent behind him (not literally of course) and I’m sure he will be fine. He might make the odd mistake but so do all keepers. Ederson wasn’t anywhere near his best last season. The other alternative being banded around is Costa and no one seems particularly keen on him either.
Between Costa and Trafford, I am more convinced by Costa. As things are. Think he is currently a better keeper, and is at the very least more tested and experienced.

Who would be the better keeper long term? Really have no idea.

If Trafford came in, absolutely fine with that, trust the club's judgement and back the lad and everyone in front of him.

The one thing I'm not keen on, is the idea of both. If it is Trafford, bring him in as the first choice and give him a proper chance, and the time. The last thing I want is for the lad to come in at the same time as another high profile high fee keeper on a long term contract, to tick a club trained spot at no.2. That would be frustrating and unfair imo.

It is one or the other for me, whichever the club decides I'll support.

Devastating was getting relegated to Division Two. Being 2-0 down against Gillingham. Being 2-1 down against QPR.

The club signing a goalkeeper we perhaps don't think is good enough to help us win the league isn't in the same ballpark.
If we replaced Haaland with the equivalent of Trafford, I'd be devastated.

I'm just curious why some of you who are constantly belittling others by saying, "The people at the club, and Pep, know far more about football than you," or similar, in other threads when blues here think some players need to go or should play less, and etc.

Are you suddenly against the club? Do you know more about football than Pep and the scouts and analytics people at the club?

Do you not trust Pep? If he thinks Trafford is good enough for whatever reason, isn't that enough for you lot who use that line as a stick to beat people with in other threads?

Im torn on this one, my heart says Trafford but my head says Costa. (Three times Liga team of the season cant be too shoddy)
Didnt realise till now that Trafford actually had a great season in league one with Notlob before his Burnley move. PFA team of the season and Notlob young player of the year. Has Joe Hart at Shewsbury vibes about him.

I'd argue the teams that Porto face in the bottom half of their league probably aren't as good as the top 6-8 in the Championship, so in terms of the quality of opposition there isn't much difference at least domestically. Obviously Costa has faced top opposition at international level.

I love it. We are now getting Trafford and Costa. Best team in the land and a the world. Typical City :-)

Ask him what he thinks about signing Kyle Walker
As regards Trafford I will trust the club who have an intimate knowledge of him from being a kid over a fan
For what’s it worth watching him in the PL with Burnley I told my son he would be back at City one day
There's surely no chance you watched him with burnley in the prem under Vinny and came to the conclusion he'd be back here one day.

He had a disastrous time. Got dropped for Muric who makes multiple mistakes per game because he was having a horrible time and just couldn't cope.

I'm not saying thats him now, I've honestly seen practically nothing of him since then, I'd like to imagine hes improved since, using that experience to steel himself for the future and its just a question of how much hes improved.

Or just give them a chance before writing them off before they’ve even played a game for us.

Has there been a post thats suggested they'd be unwilling to give him a chance should he come back? You've taken perfectly valid, and in the main, balanced, opinions questioning whether hes good enough to make the steep jump so soon and interpreted them as people writing him off before hes signed. Those two things are very far apart from being put into the same category

If we’re going for Costa I’d advise Trafford not to join city. Trafford needs regular first team football, not to sit on the bench

Long term I think Trafford has more potential than Costa

Devastated? That’s a bit extreme. I’m sure pep and the club know what they’re doing
Devastated is a wild take from that poster I agree, you cannot simply say pep and the club know what they are doing as the response though. You could respond with that in any scenario really but lets face it, it's been a while since we got a window right.

I don't mind Trafford, whoever comes in will be a step down with the ball at their feet but I imagine a sizeable upgrade on actually goalkeeping ability. It may be a lazy comparison but it does remind me of Hart, going away, playing for lesser teams and learning the trade and then returning to a whole new level.

He's a Chelsea fan
Says he’s a Bolton fan now… https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/25220155.england-keeper-james-trafford-love-bolton-wanderers/

“I am a Bolton fan,” he said. “I love Bolton. Everyone in the club, I loved them.
“I don’t know what it was, I just couldn’t have loved the club and the people as much as I did. I still speak to a lot of the people there, whether it’s Ray on reception - my mum and dad got really close to him - they’d make him a cake and he’d give them some jam!

why not? They clearly do know what they are doing. You only have to look the amount of trophies we’ve won and the success we’ve had. If you can’t trust pep or his decision making who can you trust?

Makes little sense, which means it might be true. €60m for Costa is hard to swallow for sure.
Have a look on Twitter for the excellent statistical comparison between Ederson, Costa, and Trafford:

I mentioned earlier in the thread that it was by @City_rabin, but I was wrong - it is by @livermorej92, retweeted by Rabin.
