I can see him signing as number 2 if he has been told that Ederson will be leaving next summer and the plan is for him to transition to be number one over the course of the season.

Don't see it, he left to get Number 1 position to be brought back to not get it straight away! ha

IF, and a big IF thats the case, he would of been better off staying at Burnley another 12 months, the clubs could have arranged for a deal to take place.

Not a chance Trafford sits as number 2, he would of been number 1 at Burnley, number 1 at Newcastle and consistantly plays for england u21s and in the main england squad.

It's a great deal. As good as Ortega has been for us, and let's not forget how we were marvelling at having two world class goalkeepers for the first time in years, to replace him now with a home grown, club trained, international level potential talent, is just a great move.

It also means one less exit from the outfield team so less need to rush something there, as well as the potential to have England's number one represented by city again.

If we now get £13m for Ortega then we're laughing, a net zero deal.

Mamardashvili signed for the dippers for more money, with more experience as Valencia's number 1 to be their backup to Alisson for the immediate future. Why wouldn't Trafford do the same?

If he wants to play for City desperately as is suggested, why wouldn't he be willing to wait a year or 2 with the chance to play and impress when called upon over signing for Newcastle on a 5 year deal and then either they arent willing to sell or we arent willing to pay the premium in a few years time.

He's 22, got 15 years ahead of him, theres no rush on his part. Signing initially as backup puts himself in prime position, it rules out any off the pitch factors in determining whether he becomes our number 1 for a decade and beyond, it's now purely down to him and his performances in training and on the pitch, why wouldn't he go for that?

same as my previous response to another poster.

He will not have agreed to join us, to sit as number 2 when was guaranteed Number 1 at Newcastle or Burnley

Burnley didnt get promoted because he is good with his feet. His record of stopping the ball going in the net is equal best in English history.

City will have options after Pep, this just sorts out the keeper situation

Not really, it mattered for us because we shat the bed big time, in the old format we dont get out of the groups. Dippers had about 3 games that didnt matter last season and PSG qualifying right near the bottom and winning it with ease shows the league position is pointless, they'll be plenty of games that dont matter if we do our job

Has to be. Kelleher went for the top end of that. Flekken went for £12m, petrovic went for about £25m. If thats the market then Ortegas value has to be within that range you've said. So expect him to go on a free with up to £3m in add ons if he wins the balon d'or...
Everyone quotes PSG v Liverpool as it was a standout anomaly… it was important for the vast majority of clubs to finish high. Also next CL they have introduced a new rule whereby you can”steal” another club’s home advantage. It’s just nor a competition you can take a chance in and Pep won’t.

I’m very confident that if Ederson stays and isn’t injured then Trafford will not play in any CL games next season. We will see.

I'd be curious to see how Traffords stats compare to Joe Harts
Why? the only thing they have in common is their nationality

Trafford trained here to play our style and is good woth his feet, he went because ortega was signed instead of him being promoted.

We are correcting a mistake we made 3 season ago buying a keeper instead of bringing in JT as No2 in preperation for Eddies time to go

No mistake was made. Trafford needed to go away and play. He's done that and now we've exercised the clause we put in for this exact reason

So the plan is obviously. Ortega leaving. Which im sure we get 13 mill for which completely covers the trafford fee. Eddie stays leaving on a free next summer ( better than 3m from galtasaray) Trafford learns from Eddie this year playing plenty of games too. summer 2026. Trafford citys number 1. New number 2 signed .

No chance Ortega goes for £13m - keepers don't go for a lot anyway but when you factor in his contract situation and the fact clubs now know one of them has to go, we'll get £3/4m for him max IMO.

don't get me wrong, i'm happy he's signed.
but, for what they're worth, his stats with his feet are terrible when compared to either Ederson or Ortega.
It's worth noting that both of these stats are against weaker opposition for Trafford.

Joe Hart was let go because it was thought he wasn't good enough with his feet.
Bot Hart and Trafford are/were excellent shot stoppers.

Hence me wondering how their stats compare. That's why.

Not to criticize him, just to wonder at Hart being let go.
