I don't think you can judge too much in stats.

Trafford wouldn't have faced many 1 on 1s or easy shots at Burnley because their defence was playing a high line or made the sort of errors ours made last season.

If he comes in, takes over from Ederson and saves 85% of his shots I'll be very pleased. But suspect it's a bit unrealistic to think that'll happen.

Takes me right back to the Shay Given / Joe Hart debate from 2011. Right choice made then looking back on who gets the no 1 shirt.

Domestic player, fits the age profile, able to do a job now and still has potential to develop. Match bid clause saves £13 million on the buyback as well (thanks Newcastle) giving us margin for re sale as well if it doesn't work out but I hope that's not the case. Solid if not really spectacular piece of business this window if it goes through but keeper signings rarely make the hairs on your neck stand up after all. I like this move, lets not forget Eddie joined us as uncapped with well under 100 top flight appearances in Portugal and that worked out well.

Though confess cries of "Trafford, Trafford" ringing round the Etihad will take some getting used to.

Happier with him replacing Ortega than Ederson. Bettinelli is a solid keeper aswell so if Eddy is injured and Trafford finds it tough we're not as fucked as we would be with Carson, as much as I loved the guy around the place, you'd have kittens if he had to fill in for 3 or 4 games.

For some strange reason goal keepers seem to abandon their shot stopping instincts the moment they spend a full season under Mancisdor, that's an undeniable fact

Or he improves their positioning so they very rarely have to make full stretch fingertip saves. Onana and Pickford have a highlight reel of 'world class' saves every season and both are shite.

Just have to stick to Englands number 1 then:)

The positioning can’t be that good the way we concede goals. World class saves are also 1vs1 you know

Not imo mate.

How many times have we seen “we had 85% possession, 25 shots and they had one breakaway and scored from it and we lost 1-0” type posts?

Keeper is there to stop the ball going in, regardless of the type of shot.
You’ve said it there though one breakaway, with defenders chasing back, most PL strikers are expected to score one on ones, Ederson probably saves or comes out and stops more than he concedes from them though. Trafford has probably hardly ever faced that, and certainly not PL and Cl strikers, not saying he can’t do it but I’d bet his save ratio falls with us.

Not as an isolated metric it doesn’t.

Scoring more goals than the opponent wins you games and trophies. Having a goalkeeper who prevents the opposition scoring is essential to this.
It is in your opinion though you’ve just said Edersons save ratio is wank, so all those trophies have been won,all those records broken with a keeper whose save ratio is wank but by playing out from the back.
Except you are right we need a keeper that is a good keeper as well as good at playing out from the back to win trophies, at least with us,the trophies prove Ederson is that. For what it’s worth I think Trafford is also that good at both parts of the game, obviously Pep and the coaches do too, and will be great for us.
