Supposed to have a medical today and assumed contract was already basically done wonder if there could be a bit of a delay to arrange Ortega going the opposite way

Normally just the interview and media being done and the production etc right so will be released possibly tomorrow afternoon or tea time with the announcement at 8am

Reports the other day that Burnley isnt interested in Ortega.

When you play for a team who has 70% possession, being able to play out from the back is one of the most important things our keeper needs. It’s in the top three reasons we’ve won 18 trophies under Pep as Ederson is like an 11th outfield player which has allowed us easily push a full back or centre back into midfield and outnumber our opposition where numbers are most important.

Plus who’s to say that the difficulty of the shots one keeper faces compared to another is the same? Someone with 65% save rate might have faced much better shots than someone with an 85% save rate so their save quality could be the same or even better for the 65%er.

Also keeper making a save can be helped by good defending in front of him making the shot more difficult for the opposition player, which isn’t much to do with the quality of keeper. A team who sits back more than City do can make shots more difficult just simply from the panalty area being busier, compared to a lot of breakaway goals City concede where attacking opposition have loads of space to get off a shot the keeper can’t save.

Keeper is there to stop the ball going in, regardless of the type of shot.

I’ve said it before on here, we’ve lost far too many games where the opposition has scored with their only shot on target. Those moments have cost us crucial points, games we could’ve easily seen out with a 0-0 draw or even nicked a 1-0 win. And that’s been one of my long-standing criticisms of Ederson. As brilliant as he is with the ball at his feet and in starting attacks, he’s never really been a world class shot stopper in the mould of Alisson or Oblak.

The one game that really stands out where he reached that elite level - was the Champions League Final. That night, he was phenomenal. He pulled off saves that genuinely won us the treble single handedly that night. That was the Ederson we all want to see more often.

Apologies for going off topic, but regarding Burnley they’ve swapped the stands around for this upcoming season so the “home end” in the cricket field stand is now our end which means even fewer tickets about 1,800 I’ve been told off my mates :-/

Doesn’t it have to be the lower of 3k or 10%? Which would be maybe 2.3k?
