I love Stones, I thought he'd be our future captain and I hate to hear people call him shite. However, he's not doing much to help us defend him.
It's obvious we've got huge problems with our defense. Laporte coming back isn't going to completely resolve these issues; theres much more to it than just him being out.
 
It is disappointing given our travails at the back this season that we haven't tried to strengthen in that area this month.

We don't make panic buys on the back of a four month dip in results.

This is just the natural end of the current 3 year cycle; Khaldoon has stated on many occasions during the end of season reviews that we work in these cycles. Experienced players leave, current players take on the leadership mantle and young players begin to emerge. We assess the areas we need to strengthen/fill a gap as part of that evolution, as part of a long term transfer strategy (e.g. Rodri signed a 5/6 year contract because we want him long term, not because Fernandinho was finished, as he's clearly not, not just yet anyway).
 
I am amazed we have not got a fresh face in this window, we are desperate. Especially with champs league. even a short term player with experience.

we either have a player in mind for the summer or pep is leaving & no point spending cash now.

just find it really strange. The owners want champs league & this defence is not good enough to win & we have a great chance this year.

Not strange at all, we couldn't buy without selling. Laporte is coming back. We'll replace Otamendi in the summer. It was all made clear by Pep weeks ago. Pep isn't leaving but even if he was our summer targets would be the same player, we'll have a short list done already.

We're hamstrung until we sell Otamendi due to maxing our foreign quota and that won't be possible until the summer.

Even if we could find a viable homegrown option in January at a reasonable price, which we wouldn't be able to, we're not going to do it without other players making way.

They'll also be looking at Laporte coming back and being able to play a decent part in the upcoming months.
