January transfer/its quiet Thread

I'd rather see Zinchenko grab the opportunity by the scruff of the neck instead of signing someone out of desperation.

Surprised we've not already gone business with concerns over Kompany,Delph....think we need more help at the back but Evans would be the most strange bit of business we could do during Jan window....hopefully we have someone else lined up!

LB:
We already have both the LB slots filled with 2 good options in Mendy and Delph.
Obviously we're reliant on Delph till April/May and even then Mendy is unlikely to hit the ground running
Options:
  • loan deal till the end of the season - highly unlikely
  • Long term: Sign a young player like R.Sessegnon who could contribute till the end of the season and then perhaps be loaned out next season (assuming he doesn't warrant taking Delph's spot)
  • Short term: Sign a cheap option like Van Aarnholt (assuming he'd be 15m or less) with the view of selling in the summer
I don't think we'll do any of that. Instead we'll muddle on with Danilo/Zinchenko and Delph till Mendy is back

CB:
Seems pretty obvious we'll be looking to sign a top class CB in the summer to rotate/compete with Stones/Otamendi so any CB signing this window would become 4th choice within months

  1. How much are we prepared to invest in someone to be sat in the stands most weeks next season?
  2. If we were to have, say, Koulibaly, Otamendi and Stones next season, 3 players who would warrant starting every game, would we not be in a position to have Kompany as 4th choice next season? All 3 would get a decent amount of rest so less chance of injury/fatigue, and if Kompany wasn't available for a League Cup game Dinho could play there (assuming we sign another DM in the summer)
FW:
Think it was Sanchez or nothing (till the summer)

Verdict:I reckon Pep has had enough of Kompany's unreliability so ...

Delph is injured now isn't he? So we won't be able to rely on Delph until April/May. For me Zinchenko should play, I think he will be fine.
I agree with you regarding Kompany, I think he is done at City and will only be playing now if we literally have no better option.

Mangala has once again shown recently that he is just not good enough and just a mistake waiting to happen, so we cannot rely on him either.

we need a very good lb, i would go after that ismally(sp) from shakhtar, all this we have mendy , delph, danilo and zinch is bollox, mendy is pretty much done for the season, delph is injured ,danilo is walker cover and an average lb,zinc is not and wont ever be a good enough lb for us if we want to challenge for the top titles.

get somebody in either January or summer who can push mendy for a starting spot.

Don't see us doing anything this month and I have to say I think it's really risky being as it's a world cup year and how tricky players seem to find bedding into the system it almost commits us to pretty much the same team until the summer of 2019.

As others have alluded to I think it's fair to say Kompany is done and after a world cup with Belgium trying to get 2 games a week out of his body, only the most reckless would count on him at all next season.

Clearly our rivals will look to strengthen this window so the question becomes will they strengthen enough to catch us, this season it's doubtful and then in the summer its certainly not out of the question that 4 of our rivals will be changing managers (Klopp is the one that I think won't be moving or being pushed). However, anyone coming in will have the World Cup issue too, so maybe the whole sticking with what you have got and not changing anything is the way to go, if it's not there will be one hell of an inquest...

If we're going to look at a centre back then maybe we should look at Maguire in January not summer, at most it would be £20m more than Evans but he is 5 years younger and will have resale value.

Other than that maybe bring forward any bid for Fred as an injury to Fernandinho is one of few things that could destabilise the team.
