The Nigel De jong could have been free thing is a myth that keeps getting peddled by the media to try and make us look stupid, he had verbally and publically agreed to a new 4 year contract (though it hadn't actually been physically signed) had he tried to renege it would have been one huge court battle that would have been lost and would have been an absolute mess. The Sun i think carried the original story and twisted the facts, they also ignored the fact that other teams who were prepared to pay significantly for him (who knows how much 9m ? 12m? 15m?) were also in there so yet again had we not paid for him he would have gone elsewhere had Hamburg deemed it enough.

Sick of this myth that we screwed up because he was on a free a few months later and no one else was interested, it is a twist of the facts and is not really reality.

i agree.makes me laugh how stories about some city transfers get 'sensationalised' like the de jong one. bit like some press saying tevez cost 47m, when it was 25m!!!, when no other player's 5years worth of wages get added to their transfer fee. if they can't get a negative slant on a story about us they make it up. jealousy.

Same as the fairytale story of City's millions being eclipsed by those plucky paupers from North London. I must've missed the home grown stars in the spurs team I just saw multi-million pound signings all over the pitch.

the guy is a centre half through and through. Really don't get this move, we don't need a cb need 2 natural fullbacks. Whatever happened to christian ansaldi and that kid from roma we were after, motta i think he was?

Very exciting prospect in this signing I feel.

Need a new right back and left back, so for this lad to be able to play anywhere across the back line is fantastic for us.

Come on City, sign him up!!

(Also, did he play against us last year for Hamburg, at our place? Remember him I think....)

MANCHESTER City have won a major power struggle with mighty Real Madrid to capture Germany international Jerome Boateng for £13million.

Real thought they had a deal set up for the Hamburg defender (below) but City have out-muscled the Spaniards in the financial department.

Boateng, 21, prefers the role of centre-half but City boss Roberto Mancini has earmarked him as his new right-back ahead of Micah Richards and Pablo Zabaleta next season.

It’s City’s first signing of what will be a busy summer.

Boateng, who has played three times for his country, has already told the media in Hamburg that he expects to be a new Blue in time for City’s American pre-season tour in July.

Mancini is delighted to get his man for his problem right-back berth. And Hamburg are pretty pleased, too.

Not so much at losing a highly valued player but the fact that City have now bulged their bank account by £35m in the last 20 months.

Hamburg sold Vincent Kompany to City for £6m and received a £16m cheque for Nigel de Jong.

Both have been excellent buys for City and Mancini is in no doubt that another £13m for Boateng is another great investment.

So many conflicting stories about with this one, what with RSC going the other way.

RSC won't be part of the Boateng deal (which is almost done). If he does go to Hamburg then it'll be a separate transfer.
