Jesus Navas

Ridiclous decision, was hoping for a great year next season but just find his extension dejecting. He's a good lad I'm sure but I really dislike him as a player I think he offers nothing. Rather give Zabba another year or Sagna tbh. May commit Seppuko in protest outside the ground.

Not surprised by the offers to Toure and Navas.

We allowed the situation with the fullbacks to develop over a number of years, so the likelihood of solving the problem in one window was never great. Similarly, the drop off in ability to the youngest players is too great, so having experienced versatility (Tour/Navas/Clichy) makes sense for another season.

Zabba appears to have turned it down as 1 yr not enough and sagna is nearly 35,it' appears to be a decent idea as navas is a cheap half decent back up to a new first teamer

If you have to cross the ball low on the ground how many time would any player get past the first defender?
De Bruyne has no problem hitting low crosses into dangerous areas - because he's prepared to play the ball early. Navas takes half a dozen touches, lets the defender block the angle and then tries to smash it through him. The only way it gets through is with a nutmeg or nice deflection.

I really don't see the problem in this, we're losing both Sagna and Zabaleta this window, that means we need a full back and a back up full back, how can we be expected to pay 30+m on a starting full back then also pay for a back up that would be a fair chunk of our budget gone on one position surely it is better to retain Navas as he is a cheap option so we have more money to use on other areas of the pitch that are in desperate need of reinforcements. After all, it's not like he'll be starting 30/40 games a season, he might not be the most technically gifted player ever to grace the pitch but he puts a shift in and could do a job a few games a season.
I suppose this just outlines how poor we have been in the last few markets in terms of squad management, we are in the situation where we need 4 new full backs and we might not be able to get them all so we're seriously considering having a winger who has played 4-5 games at right back for us as the back up. Just imagine if our new signing (if we have one) gets injured and Navas is the RB for the rest of the season? Your backup in the squad is supposed to provide pressure on the first team, i can't see Navas doing that tbh.

Completely agree, if we want to encourage people to renew their season ticket, this is definitely not the way to do it. Living in hope of a brighter future and this if true is totally deflating .

You'd have thought Navas would be a good defender given the amount of times he's let a defender get the better of him when trying to cross the ball

Navas is a push as he's not too bad at right back but I can't take another year of watching Gael Clichy

Agreed, much rather just keep Kolarov then, his contract is up the following summer anyways and he can play both leftback and centerback. He might be slow but at least he's got a good left foot, Clichy doesn't have a good anything and is probably the biggest violator when it comes to the poor mentality in the team.

If we keep Clichy as well as keeping Kolarov, I might have to ditch the whole thing.

Since moving to right back he has more space when overlapping and his crossing has been much better, the problem has been nobody in the box, hopefully Jesus will get on the end of Jesus's crosses. No joke intended :)
Nice pun.Unfortunately the only recent cross I recall by Navas finding a blue shirt was when he managed to whip it past the attackers expertly picking out Clichy, and you can guess how that worked out.

i can understand if Navas is to play as a backup wingback. Hope to god its not an extension as a first choice rightback cos he'd need a few good seasons on how to defend properly.

So definitely need a proper right back, was impressed with the Monaco one when we played them, Fabinho, i think?

Definitely need new left back(s), Clichy's having more bad games than OK games now and isnt a threat going forward. So again, the Monaco left back is my preferred choice, Sidibe. Reports that Jordi Alba is fuming at lack of playing time at Barca, so at 28, could be an option with experience.

Centre-back, probably with the unknown with Vinny's injuries. Koscielny reports flying around. Best defender in Arsenal team, Prem experience, good touch and reads the game well, could be an option to play along Vinny, Stones or Otamendi.

Do think we lack a big man option up front sometimes. Aubameyang of Dortmund sticks out for me like a sore thumb.

Midfield is pretty much covered, if Gundogan can stay fit, can see him taking over Silva's role. Dont think Fernando has ever done it for us, maybe a replacement there and with Yaya getting older.

And a goalkeeper as i doubt Hart will want to come back. Butland would do it for it for me with Pickford as number 2. Both are like Hart so maybe not Pep's choice, but i'd rather have a goalkeeper between the sticks than a midfielder wearing keeper kit and gloves.

Good move. All those armchair managers are a joke thinking that they know better than Pep with all his time monitoring Maffeo up close in training and his progress in Spain from city staff and pep's own contacts. Give me a break. Maffeo isn't the next lahm or cafu or else pep would have wanted him to stay with the senior team

Kdb along with eriksen are the best crossers of the ball in the league. It's obvious navas isn't up to their standard but he isn't as shit as many here say he is.
